I own a 2009 Honda Pilot. The windshield got hit by a rock and now the crack is spreading. Tried to get it fixed when the crack was about 6-7" long. The guy tried to put a "stop" on the crack, but it didn't work. 2 days later the crack is continuing to run horizontal and now there is a second crack going vertical. In the past day they've grown to around 18" long each...and continuing to grow. I assume there is no fixing this, so a windshield replacement is required.

What should I expect to pay and does anyone have any recommendations on who to use?

We've called around and pricing is all over the place ($200 - $900). Insurance deductible is $500. We live in Pearland, but anyplace around Houston is fine.

TIA

Thanks for the quick reply 1Ags. I called Apple and they quoted me about $350. I also called the Honda dealership and was told don't do it there, but they recommended 2 glass places. One quoted $138 and the other quoted $150.

All were after market glass. Apple uses PPG or Pilkington and the other 2 use XYG. Maybe that accounts for the difference, but is there really a substantial quality difference between the brands that would justify paying double?

Pilkington is what luxury car manufacturers use in OEM applications.

And a quick Google search of XYG shows a lot of complains about quality and customer service.

You know the Chinese are monitoring everything that comes through their interwebs, and they aren't going to be happy about your response. Bamboo chutes for you!

i've used many auto glass places over the years on many cars and safelite has never disappointed.

they are a bit more expensive but are still competitive. The thing that will make it more expensive is if yo have rain sensors/auto dim mirrors/special features on that glass. So be weary of places that dont ask you any details on your vehicle.

I replaced the windshield on my 2012 Pathfinder twice last year (mississppi roads dont believe in street sweeping) and both times safelite got it done for about $240.

Yesterday I replaced the windshield on my 03 tundra at Safelite for $266. They have a couple operations in south Houston, Alvin being one of them and the other escapes me. Give them a call.

So who did you end up using?

Uni glass in Houston quoted me $130 for a new windshield installed on my 2005 Mustang. I doubt I could find cheaper.
