I recently about two weeks ago, replaced new front brake pads on my 07 silverado 4x4 and also had the rotors turned. The brakes are making this horrible squeal when the truck is first getting going for the day. Any ideas on what may be going on, or what I did wrong?

Rotors are probably not as in good shape as you thought -even after machining. Same story with my '04. Got new rotors and the noise went away instantly.

Did you do it yourself or take it somewhere?

I'd buy new rotors if you are doing them at home or at a mechanic. Buy your own and take them in if you have to. "Machining" rotors is almost the same price if done at a shop anyways and they wear the pads faster.

Also the noise may be coming from not having greased the parts on the pads and calipers.

agree on the greasing, kinda why i asked who did it. if you did it yourself, i'd maybe go back and take a look and make sure it's all lubed and see if anything is grinding. if you took it somewhere, take it back and tell them they did a shi*** job

I did it myself. I took the rotors off and took them and had them turned. I didnt lube the pads. This is my first time doing it, so Im learning/teaching myself as I go

When you do brake work, you should apply fresh brake grease between each pad and its backing plate. The noise you're hearing is probably the backing plates/shims vibrating.

A lot of the time brake grease comes in a container that has a built-in paintbrush applicator. I use the applicator to get a gob on there and then smear it on the surface with my finger (wearing a vinyl glove). You just want to coat the area where the backing plate/shim sits against the backside of the pad. You don't want it on thick, a very thin layer is all that's needed. All the pads will have an associated backing plate/shim so that's 8 surfaces you'll need to grease.

What kind of pads did you buy??

Lube caliper slide pins.

Buy disc brake quiet (CRC)
