Had just the glass mirror stolen off the side view mirrors of my truck while it was sitting outside my house the other night. It was done cleanly, not scratching or breaking any other parts/wires (they were too nice!). Has anyone experienced this before or have suggestions to prevent this from happening again? I've searches all over the Internet and haven't really seen anything serviceable. Even the guys here at Ford don't seem to know of anything. Thanks

That sucks. Can you replace just the glass, or do you have to buy the whole mirror assembly? Used to only be able to get the whole assembly -$$$$. Likely the reason they were stolen.

The whole housing or just the glass????

Just the actual glass. The cocaine picture describes it perfectly! Ha I think they knew the price tag on the driver side (338) for the glass part alone. The housing and everything was left in tact so the repair wasn't as bad as it could've been. Totaled 480 to get both glass only parts and labor.

In New York this is a little common. I see people with these huge metal things with pad locks on them that prevent the mirrors from being stolen

My brother had this happen to him in a Dallas parking garage while he was at work. Stole on the driver's side mirror and didn't break anything. Not sure how to protect it. It must be getting more popular.

This happened to my buddy on his premium trim Tahoe Hybrid. The mirrors are auto-dimming, etc, so they are a hot item. All they need to do is jam a flathead in there and pop out the mirror, mirror bracket, and actuator bracket. The actuator is usually left in there.

You can't buy just the actuator bracket, along with the mirror and mirror bracket, though from the dealership. You have to buy the whole assembly and it gets $$$ quick. He went on ebay and was able to get all the stuff he needed from a wholesale parts supplier for much cheaper.

What do you drive? I'm assuming something fancy to be that much? I just replaced my driver side assembly due to a hit and run where thankfully it was the only thing hit. I guess if you have a really old one or a fancy one that has the blinker lights on it, it could get expensive in a hurry.

My whole assembly was just $150 and easy to replace myself, maybe took 5 minutes. It is literally 4 nuts. I was pissed it broke just enough of the cover/inside mechanism that moves it to warrant replacing the whole thing. The mirror its self was just $36

Here's just the glass i would have needed for my F150. Would have been nice to just be the mirror. Found the exact assembly part cheaper on a different site and you'd never know it happened if you saw the truck.
