I'm looking at buying one, and interested to know any of your thoughts. It's 4x4 and has the 8.1L engine - about 145,000 miles. It appears to run well other than loose steering.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this engine or the steering issue? I plan to have my mechanic look at it before purchase if we can agree on a price, but didn't know if there were any common issues or concerns.

Also, anyone have any idea what it will cost to replace the headliner?

Thanks.

8.1, eh? 11mpg up or downhill. But, loads of power.

Not much aftermarket but turbos are universal

I doubt the 8.1 would get to double digit MPG.

It can. My cousin drove a burban just like that for several years.

If you are buying a suburban you shouldn't be beeching about MPG. Just like if you are buying a Ferrari or Lamborghini.

Suburbans a bricks that plow down the road. Damn I love them.

I'm not worried about the mpg. I'm more interested if anyone has experience with that particular engine and if I'll have any trouble putting another 50,000 miles one it without much trouble.

This will be an extra vehicle for me, and will be used mostly for road trips, hunting, trips to home depot, etc.

I know people don't buy Suburbans for MPG. That is remarkable that a vehicle and motor that big can get > 10.
