I'm looking to get a sports car and I love both the M3 and the GT500. I've had both a 3 series and a cobra, so I know what I am getting into for the most part.

I would be buying a 2011-2012 Shelby or a 2009-2010 M3, CPO for both. I will only be putting about 4K (or less) miles on the car a year. I am wondering what you guys think about resale value in 5 years. I dont want to lose my a$$ when I sell it. What do you guys think is a better buy? I can't really find much about the reliability of either on the web.

Rent one when you feel the urge and save $20k.

the m3 is going to have a better resale but this plan....it is horrible.

You'd likely lose less on the older M3. These are two very different cars, so the comparison is puzzling to me. Personally I'd take the M3 and drive the excrement out of it everyday.

They are 100% percent different, but both crazy fast in their own way. Probably not the best way to spend that kind of cash but I want to get the car of my dreams before I get married and have kids.

I am getting a company car with the stipulation that I can only drive it during the week...so it seems like the perfect time to get a weekend beast.

The other car I had in mind was a used 911, but I am affraid of the repair costs.

Because you can use that to get whatever kind of car you want.

Shelbys hold their value really well and there is the whole mountain of torque thing. Maintenance costs will be minimal as well. No way I'd buy a European car for that reason alone.
