Looking to do driveway maintenance and I need some good automotive ramps. I've used steel ones before and I've also seen plastic ones at Walmart and Autozone. Are the plastic ones any good or should I stick with metal? TIA

Go the floor jack and jack stand route

I just bought some plastic ones from Walmart. Used once so far and they were fine. I didn't like the metal ones I had years ago. They were heavy, noisy, and tended to slip a bit on a smooth surface.

I have the plastic ones rated for 10k lbs. I use it for my tundra oil changes and they work great. The only part that will pucker you up a little is driving them up. But you've used the ramps in the past so you are familiar with that.

I have the same plastic ones, nothing wrong with them

What kind of vehicle? Are you lowered? What are you trying to accomplish?

Are you trying to get under the car just with ramps, or are you wanting to use the ramps in conjunction with a floor jack? The plastic ones from Wally World/Autzone aren't really sufficient for a car with low ride height, not even the "low profile" ones. Plus they tend to slide.

My car I made my own ramps to get the front end high enough to use my floor jack under a central point.

If you can't fit a jack under your car and don't feel like making your own ramps, something like this would be ideal:

I've got an 01 Crown Vic and I'm looking for ramps or a jack to do routine maintenance. Oil changes and the normal stuff. Nothing too heavy duty. I just didn't know if plastic ramps were sturdy or not. Sounds like they are. Might give em a try.

The plastic/poly ramps are fine. I finally picked up with Rhino 12000# ramps from Advance last year for like $35 and can't believe I waited so long. Makes the oil changes and inspections a hell of a lot easier than messing with a jack and stands.

No reason to overthink this. For lots of routine maintenance plastic ramps are perfectly fine.

For your 01 Vic, you're better off lifting the front wheels with a jack and using jack stands, that way you can turn the wheel to the right to get the oil filter out. One of the suspension arms is in the way and the wheel has to be turned to the left or right.

For a Vic those ramps you're looking at should be fine.

There are benefits to a jack and jackstands though. You'd have more room to work, for instance (bc you wouldn't have ramps in your way).
