Disconnected the negative terminal on the battery, reconnected the battery and alarm went off (possibly because my door was open). Now, it seems like the Toyota immobilizer is active, and I can't start the truck. All other electronics appear to function as they should, I just can't start the truck. Dealership says I need to tow it in to them...do not want

Warranty = take it to the dealer.

Throw the keys at customer service and say you don't want that piece of ****.

Did you try hitting the unlock button on the fob after reconnecting the battery?

Ya, that was the only way to turn the alarm off once the battery was reconnected. I tried cycling the alarm system several times as well

Use the key in the door to lock and unlock the door.

Then try to start it.

Remove battery terminal. Insert key into ignition, and turn to "run." Reconnect battery cable.

Here's what I've tried...
1. Battery disconnected for 12 hours
2. Locking/Unlocking the vehicle with key at the door handle
3. Arming/disarming the alarm system 5 times with fob
4. Disconnect battery, key in run position, reconnect battery.
5. Disconnect/reconnect battery. While alarming is going off, insert key to run position and press the little red button 3 times. -Once I pushed the red button 1 time, the alarm went off. I also tried to redo this one several times with the red button in different starting position, but no luck. And this one probably pissed off my neighbors the most...oops
6. Lock the vehicle, disconnect/reconnect battery, open door with key. -alarm disengaged immediately when it recognized my key unlocking the door.

sounds like time for a tow

I ran into a similar situation with an 04 Impala. What has worked is this:
1. Get in and shut the door
2. Put the key into the ignition and turn it one click (radio and accessories come one) and wait five seconds.
3. Turn another click to where the key would be when it is running but don't try starting it an wait five seconds.
4. Try to start the vehicle. It should start. If not go put up an ad on Craigslist for a 2013 Tacoma for sell...

Was the driver door shut when you were trying to start?

Was the seatbelt latched? With the new regulations it is required to have the seatbelt latched before it starts. You might be low on blinker fluid also.

My brother's '06 Taco had some kind of anti-theft key that pushed in the lower dash above the OBD-II port. He hit it with his leg one time and jarred it loose and the truck wouldn't start. Took us awhile and lots of cursing until we figured it out.

No idea if the new models still have this or not?
