Well, I had some a##wipe try and change lanes on me today so I swerved to keep from being hit. In the process, I curbed the !@#$%^& outta my front left wheel. God, I'm pissed!

So, where in the greater Houston area should I look at to get it fixed? Any suggestions?

Pictures for your viewing misery!

If the integrity of the metal is not comprimised, and the gouges aren't terrible, a temporary "look better" would be to dab the nicks with a black "Sharpie"

A specialist should be able to dress the gouges out and refinish it.

Ags-R-Better, thats wrong......funny but wrong! It is the same wheel, by the way, that got polished.

Fighterpilot, the wheel is structurally fine but has some bad gouges. Definately going to have to be professionally repaired then re-powder coated.

I just don't know who is competent to do this kind of repair. Replacing the wheel is about $2k so If I have to spend $200.00-$500.00 to fix it, I'm getting off light.

If I was gonna do a temporary repair, I'd dremel ot down smooth, buff it out, prep it like you would any painted wheel then hit it with some "Black Raven" GM touchup paint then clear it.

I really dont plan on leaving it that way long enough to justify doing all that though.

Sharpie! I tried that on my license plate (unnecessary white I wanted gone) and it wouldnt even stick to that.

I've acrually used the rattle can bbq paint on some exhaust parts. Worked pretty good.

Take it to a Discount Tire, their wheel repair guys can knock it out with a 24 HR turn around.

However...I'd question of they can match it first.

Hence the winky. But with "real" tires, you get no curb rash on rims. That is the truth.

Looking to get me some 16" wheels with 4" wheel spacers so they clear the Brembos. I'll either paint them with bbq pit paint or plasti-dip them. I'll hand draw a "V" emblem using sharpies. Then I'll run me some 195/75 tires. I will be "roll'in hard"!

Ever since you've purchased this thing, your kid has gotten tickets and had her car hit twice (IIRC) and the other kid decided to paint a rim with nail polish, and now THIS.

You need to suck it up, give the car to me, and buy another SRT8 Jeep (WK1).

BIGROB, I was almost convinced by your logic to sign the title of the V over to you in an effort to break my chain of bad luck. Then I remembered you live in some frozen wasteland that isn't compatible to a 556 HP rear wheel drive car. Sorry dude, I just couldn't risk your safety. I'll suffer on.

What size are your wheels, and are those stock? Sorry if it's a dumb question, I'm just trying to figure out how they cost ~$8k for the set. You said replacing the one would cost $2k.

I mean, a set of 20" forged Volk TE37s costs about $6k right now, and that's partially due to the current inflated yen vs dollar ratio. I'm trying to figure out what your wheels are...

They are 21" NC Forged DTM Series two piece custom wheels. Factory rims are 19".

I'm not positive what they cost. They were on the car when I bought it. I was told by the shop that built the car the set was over $8K including custom center caps and finish (that's not who I bought it from so they had no real reason to "puff').

I've seen folks claim costs of a set from $6K-$12K on Ferrari, Porsche and Lambo forums. I've also seen their lower line wheels selling used for about $2500.00 a set. I haven't seen these (13 spoke) DTM wheels anywhere, even on the NC Forge website (they do have some 6 spoke and 9 spoke that are almost identical). Most places that sell them don't give a list price when your just browsing though.

I suspect the $8K is a little high or it may have included about $2K in tires. I think they should be in line with wheels like HRE, Forgeline or Modulare. My real problem would be the cost of having ONE built to replace that wheel.

There are guys that specialize in hand repairing and refinishing high end rims. You might do some searching. I have seen a couple of service vehicles driving around, probably small 1 man businesses.

Yea, I've been serching a couple of different forums (6speed, M3post, Porsche, bimmerforums, etc.) and a couple of places in Houston keep popping up. SABS, IMS, Wheels America, Rollo Solutions, and Alloy Wheel Repair. They all seem to be able to do a good job and it seems pricing would be under $300.00. Not cheap but a lot less than even a $1000.00 wheel.

liti,

Since BigRob does live in the frozen wasteland of Yankeeville, I, living in the warm tropical area of Houston, can use the rear wheel drive vehicle to the maximum extent.

So...you can transfer it over to me.

I know that it's barely in the same straousphere, but I had Wheels America do 2 20" brushed and cleared GMC wheels and at least 2 or 3 VDub wheels back in the day... Very happy with the result.

As far as the cost of your wheels, that's damn near an insurance filing at 2K each!

Dr. Doctor, with the flooding issues in Houston and the likelihood of getting trapped behind the flood gates in the Medical Center and, therefore, having the possibility of having to abandon the "V" in one of the biblical floods that torment the "Tine", I must decline your magnanimous offer. I did, however, give it all due consideration.

Terk, I would consider the insurance claim even if the wheel could be got for $1000.00 ........ but ...... I have a teenage daughter that drives an SRT8 Charger. She has bent it up pretty good on one occasion and then, several years later, totalled my SRT Grand Cherokee (precipitating the purchase of the "V". The second accident was not her fault but, for that reason, I avoid any insurance claims that will not bankrupt my a**!
