Any opinions here about the Audi Q5? Looking at a 2010 model year for a daily driver and it has piqued my interest.

They are neat. Better to lease an Audi than own one. Unless you like paying for repairs.

I've got a 2010 Q5, bought it the day they were released from port. I like it a lot and have over 40k miles on it now. The MMI is cool once you get used to it. A bit of a learning curve but quick to use once you figure it out. I've ranged from 18-27 MPG depending on if I'm driving in the city and slightly PO'd or on the highway. It drives better than most cars I've been in, very easy to get around in. The AWD system is great, very hard to get it to slip. I can punch the gas when I'm turning into traffic or the roads are wet and it just goes without hesitation or spinning the tires. Lots of little things I like on it.

Regular problems that I've heard people have with the 2010's are water pump going out and DRL control module failing. Both happened to me as well. The water pump has been recalled so that should be fixed. Luckily mine failed a week before the recall so I got a nice extension on my car's warranty to compensate. The reliability issues with Audi were the biggest downside to me. Also most likely the DRL's control module should have been replaced by now. Most people reported their DRL's failed in less than a year. I follow the Audi message boards pretty closely and haven't seen any other regular major complaints.

Thanks for the responses so far.

Ron, this would be for a chick (fiancee). I hope this helps you arrive at a conclusion.

Lex, beyond the two items you have mentioned, how do you find the reliability?
Do you have your vehicle regularly serviced at the dealer, or do you perform basic maintenance (oil, filters, etc), and if so, how easy/difficult are basic maintenance items to come by?
How is the service department at Audi? I know this can vary on the dealership, but I actually don't know any Audi drivers....maybe that should tell me something right there, lol.

The segment is definitely chick car territory but I think the Audi leans away from the rest. It had all the features I was looking for. I didn't feel the need to get poor fuel economy and a car that handled like crap just to prove I was a guy.

I've had no other problems with the car outside of the water pump and DRL's. The car came with Audi Care which covers maintenance for the first 45,000 miles so I couldn't tell you how much it has cost. The only thing I've paid for so far is a set of tires which I just had put on. The West Houston Audi dealership service department is all right but Audi does have some very poor dealerships from what I've read. My main problem is getting the service department on the phone. They're very busy but I found out if I call before 8am they answer every time. You can make appointments online now so no need to talk to them anymore. When my water pump went out I called the 1-800 number listed with the warranty and they had a flat bed out to pick it up within 30 minutes during rush hour. Usually get a loaner A4 although once they were out and I got a rental Camry.

As for doing basic maintenance yourself, there are several on the audiworld.com forum that do it. The one thing I've read is that the Q5 doesn't come with a dipstick and you'll need one of those.

It has electronic oil level monitoring. I haven't messed with it so I'm not sure if everyone is getting the dipstick because they're traditionalists or the electronic system isn't good enough.
