quick question. we're selling my wife's car, and we've got a guy coming in from louisiana to purchase it. it's going to be a cash/cashier's check sale (or perhaps an escrow service, gotta get that worked out). but given that it's an out of state sale, what all do i need to do? my plan was to remove the plates, cancel the insurance immediately, and fill out the texas title transfer form...but i feel like i'm missing something

any advice?

Take the plates, fill out the VTR346 and you can help him print a 5 day transport plate to get back to LA.

REmove the EZ Tag if you have one.

Sounds like you've got the bases covered...the rest is going to be his responsibility.

Whenever I sell something with a cashier's check, I make sure an let them know that they can only come during banking hours so that I can verify the cashier's check. They come, I run to the bank and have them verify the check, cash it, and let them leave with the goods.

How exactly does an escrow service work and are you sure you are protected fully? I wouldn't mess with that.

My company provides a 7 day escrow for items we sell...we hold the money during that time for the buyer to either A. get the item picked up or B. inspect it to make sure it was as represented.

If they do neither in that 7 day window they are SOL regarding any refunds.

However, with the nature of the stuff we auction and being a 3rd party that usually doesn't view the items ourselves it's necessary...for an Ebay auction you are setting up yourself, not so much. If you do the buyer will look for any excuse to get $$ back.

one more thing. this is my wife's car from college, therefore the title is in her dad's name.

my plan was to get him to sign the back to transfer it over to us, then us sign it to transfer it over to the purchaser.

is that right or am i way off?
