When I went down to CS this weekend for the game, I glanced down and saw that my speedometer registered my speed as 0 while just 5 minutes before it had me at 70. On the return trip Sunday it listed my speed at 90 even though I was still getting passed and then it eventually dropped down to 0. Seems to work for about 1 hr and then dies.

Has anyone had an issue like this? Googled it and found that this was an issue but it was only covered up to 7 yrs/70K. I am sitting about 80K right now. Trying to see how much it might cost me.

Does the odometer work?

Yes, all other readings appear to be fine, except for the speedometer.

As far as I know, that's not a serviceable part (1ags can confirm probably).

When it happened to my truck, it was about $400 for a complete replacement of that entire panel.

Well crap, thanks for the info though.

Check into warranty coverage. The instrument panel has been defective in a LOT of suburbans, Yukons, and Trucks in the 2004-2006 timeframe. The instrument grouping is one piece, and because it contains the odometer, you cannot replace it yourself.

Yes, throw a big fit at your Chevy dealer. This is a known problem, and they ought to fix it if you are willing to be a big enough jerk.

I'm a service writer at a chevy dealer in GA and we have warranteed clusters up to 100k miles. If youre having trouble getting your dealer warranty your cluster past 70k call gm customer service 800-222-1020. Chevy has been great helping customers past 70k either completely warrantying the cluster or covering the cluster and letting the customer pay the labor.

GM won there lawsuit against Delphi for this problem. Any way, long story short version. GM made out REALLY WELL!
GM(Generous) Motors Has a Special coverage adjustment for some of the rigs.
Document ID# 2021334, Just 2003 and 2004 for now.
Just call your favorite dealers service dept. with the last 8 of your VIN code and document code ID# 2021334. This action only covers those years and Only good for 7YRS/70,000MI
They should come out with more years and models as these original XC5.168 and X15.168 stepper motors are JUNK! They go as far back as 2000 in some models all the way thru 2006 in ALL the other models models. The new X25.168 solve all the problems and at least replace all at once and all the SMD (Surface Mounted Device) Illumination lamps while there, as they also are JUNK!
I Completely Overhaul these with all the latest for the local dealers and shops.

I had a dealer replace mine at 75k for $100. Most dealers seem willing to work with you on this problem since it's such a widespread screw up.

Ours also did the "goodwill deal" at just over the warranty distance for $100. Should have been free if you ask me, but $100 is better than $600.
