Has anyone done this before?

I even did this with a flare wrench. The flare nut much have been frozen.

I really don't wana have to replace the entire line.

The car is a 1994 Corvette. Rounded the rear wheel flare nuts.

if it is rounded, you're already replacing the entire line...

Even if you find a way to get it undone, there will be no way to tighten it without putting a new flare fitting on the line...which involves taking a chunk out of the line to put a new fitting on...

anyway, bending a new brake line isn't quite as painful as people make it out to be if you have the proper tools.

The answer you're looking for is... to get it off, you can do a couple of things: 1) try some vice grips and see if you can get enough of a bite to get the flare loose. 2) cut the line just short of the flare, and then use one of the craftsman rounded bolt extractors....

hopefully you can avoid it, but it may be necessary to use heat... try not to. In fact, it may be worth just buying a new caliper if it means not using heat.

Oreillys carries brake line repair kits and they rent a double flare tool.

This is what I did when I goofed one up on the 944 a couple of years ago. Bending a piece of brake line isn't hard to do, and if you're sending the caliper off somewhere as a core they don't mind if there's a damaged nut stuck on there. I think they'd rather take it off than get a bad core that's mangled from someone's attempts to remove the nut.

What is this replacing the caliper?????

The nut I have messed up is at the other end of the brake line. Where the hard brake line and the hose meet.

Your best bet may be to clamp the hell out of the rounded nut with vice grips and then hit the handle on the vice grips with a hammer while you are putting a little force on the VGs too. You want to make sure you clamp it reeeaal tight, so tight you can barely get the vgs clamped and hopefully the grips won't slip... Good luck!

Thinking back to what happened on a car I owned a bit too much... but cutting it off and bending your own brake line isn't hard to do.

oh, sorry... I just figured it was a hard line going to a rear axle.

now here it gets interesting...

what is it on?

if you can take the steel line and rubber line both off...do it. It will be much easier to deal with on a bench somewhere.
