Ok, spare me the "Why did you get your oil changed at Walmart" crap.....

Without me knowing, wife was shopping with kiddos at walmart and decided to get oil changed on her 1997 Dodge Ram pickup since it had been about 5 months. (She puts well under 1000 miles/month on the truck, so no need for 3 month interval).

She said not only did it take well over an hour, despite there being no cars in front of her when she dropped it off, she said the guys were clowning around honking horns on other cars and acting like immature idiots. When they finally told her they were done, they told her she had a transmission fluid leak she needed to take care of.

She told me about the whole deal and that VERY day she noticed a bunch of fluid stains on the street under where she parks. There were NO leak spots at all before she took the truck for the oil change as she always parks in the same spot along the curb. I have not seen the leak spot since I am out of town for the week, but she says it looks more like oil (no idea if she would know diff between trans and oil).

I am convinced from way she describes everything that somehow those idiots messed something up somehow and tried to cover it up by telling her she had a leak of transmission fluid. Not sure how that could happen in a simple oil change, but its WAAAAY to coincedental to have the truck start leaking all over the pavement after that. Any recourse here in regards to getting this fixed on Walmarts dime or advice what to do next? I will need her to take care of it since I don't want her driving the next week while I'm gone with a vehicle leaking some sort of fluid.....

WHere is it leaking from?

My guess is a stripped Drain plug, the molded gasket in the plug (if there) is messed up, or a double gasket on the filter.

I'd crawl under it and find out what's going on before deciding on your next course of action.

Walmart stripped my drain plug on my 98 dodge ram, they eneded up sending me to Aggieland Automotive. They replaced the plug and paid for everything but make sure they actually change the oil at aggieland, they just replaced what oil spilled out while changing the plug, had to take it back. Just call walmart they fixed it for me.

db, did you just take it back to the automotive dept. at the walmart you went to, or did you contact corporate with your complaint?

and problem is, I can't crawl under it because I'm traveling out of state right now. She took picture of street and just from that view to me the stains look like they are oil, but can't be sure. She said that she looked under the truck as best she could and it appears there is liquid coating all over the undercarriage.

I called the Auto department first told them what was going on, someone then contacted me back the same day asked me to bring the truck to them. After taking it to Wal-Mart, they sent me to aggieland automotive, I was in the same boat girlfriend took it to Wal-Mart. they were pretty helpful considering. Just make sure she kept the receipt.
