How long do you want to ignore this user?
I've got an '08 Chevy Silverado 1500 4x4 single cab - bone stock with 12K miles. When I turn right or left at "surface street" speeds (10mph-25mph), there is a clunk that comes from the front end - you can feel it in your feet, as well as hear it. It doesn't always happen - maybe only 50% of the time.

I've been searching fullsizechevy.com, but every thread I come across is about an older model with one thing or another worn or in need of lube.

#1 - does anyone have any idea what I'm dealing with and #2 - does anyone know of any other GM truck tech boards where I could do some digging for an answer?

And yes - I know "it's under warranty" and "take it to the dealership," but I like to know what I'm dealing with before I blindly trust some random mechanic at the dealership. In my experience, they're full of absolute dog**** 99.9% of the time.

Can you feel it in the steering wheel?
The intermediate steering shaft is a pretty well known problem on the silverados, although I would hope they had fixed it by 2008.

If you don't feel anything in the steering wheel, it's probably not the steering shaft.

I had a driveshaft issue that would clunk around, although only when slowing down (felt like it would CLUNK back into gear). Either way, take it into a dealer would be my recommendation.

Have this same problem with my 2008 3/4 ton 4x4. I can hear and feel the clunk about 50% of the time. Took it to the dealer and they couldn't find anything wrong with it and of course, it never made the sound once while they were driving it. Keep me updated if you find out what it is.

My '07 silverado has a 'clunk' when shifting into or out of 1st gear. At a stop light, the clunk is enough that you would think somone rolled into your bumper at the light.

Took it back to the dealer and they couldn't find anything wrong. After conversing with many other NBS Chevy owners, this seems to be a very common problem and is just the nature of the beast.

My dad's NBS '07 does the rear end clunk thing too...was just told it's normal and forgot about it.

They lubed the driveshaft on mine (rear end clunk when stopping) and it went away.

His is a SWB regular cab though...it's a single shaft, no joints to lube.

Had an '05 that did the same thing. Mine was something to do with the grease on the driveshaft, as it slipped sometimes too...

I had my 2003 Tahoe lubed about 6 times before they replaced the pedal assembly, and it solved the problem.

They would lube the shaft, it would be better for a few months, and then the clunking woudl start again.....and would get progressively worse. After they changed the 'pedal assembly'....I never felt it again.
