Live in the Leader area. We're on a well, been here for years, and it's finally time to do something about the taste of the drinking water. I don't know if we need a whole house filter, just an inline filter, or both. We do have a water softener. Any recommendations?

Edwards well? How deep?

I would get with local well drillers as a lot of them install sediment, and other type, filters on their systems. Not familiar with Leander area wells, but wells in the Trinity need filters for sediment and taste, so if no luck in your area, find a driller familiar with Trinity wells. Tommy Lovelace would be one to check with.

If it's just a drinking water taste issue, could go with a small RO system for just a drinking water spigot under sink.
