Howdy Ag's,

Just an FYI, but the local blood supply needs help from willing and able donors. If you live in the Waco/Temple/Killeen area, (pretty much all of us). Please read message below. Carter BloodCare is a 501c3 not for profit blood bank and supplies 100% of the blood to Providence, BaylorScott and white-- Hillcrest, the Olin E Teague VA (Temple), Seton Medical Center and Metroplex.

WACO/TEMPLE/KILLEEN, Texas (Jan. 6, 2017) Carter BloodCare thanks volunteer blood donors in its 56-county service area who have responded to the request for donations as the blood supply remains at a critical level. The outpouring of support is pleasing and the blood center urges other volunteers to join the effort to replenish the blood inventory. The quantity of blood products available to local hospitals, for their patients, remains at less than a one-day supply. Volunteer blood donations are a critical link to help prevent disruptions in patient care.
Community blood drives will take place in central Texas this weekend. Those volunteers with appointments are encouraged to keep them if weather conditions permit. Those without an appointment so far, are urged to visit carterbloodcare.org to locate a donor center or community blood drive where you can give blood this weekend.
The blood supply took a surprising dip when transfusion orders placed by hospitals, were much greater than anticipated during the week between Christmas and New Year's days. The increased demand came on top of an already difficult time of year (holidays and winter) for maintaining a sufficient community blood supply.
The blood center reports that more than 500 people made inbound appointment requests via phone or text on Wednesday, January 4th and the numbers continue in a positive direction. It could take a few more days, though, to restore the blood supply to a more reassuring level of sufficiency.
The public appeals and calls-to-action remain:
In order to prevent a disruption in patient care, volunteers for blood donation are urgently required at this time.
Please come in to give blood today or tomorrow.

Text for appointments Text the phrase 'Give4Life' to 444-999
Host a blood drive contact us at BookABloodDrive@carterbloodcare.org
Tell your family and friends about the blood needs and urge them to participate by making an appointment.
Remember to eat a nutritious meal and drink plenty of water at least an hour before giving blood. All donors must weigh at least 110 pounds, feel well on the day of donation, and present a government-issued photo ID each time they give blood. Potential blood donors may volunteer beginning at age 16 with parental consent; 17-year-olds may give independently and there is no upper age limit for donating blood.

The donor center in Waco is open all weekend to help accommodate donors who can come in Saturday or Sunday.

It is not too often the blood supply gets this low, and Carter doesn't issue urgent appeals or critical need requests lightly. So, please come out to a drive or the donor center over the next few days to help make sure our hospitals have the blood when they need it.
