How long do you want to ignore this user?
Hey guys -

I don't usually post very much, but I am considering interviewing for a job in Harker Heights. Unfortunately I don't know anything really about the area other than what I can read on the internet (I am from New Orleans which is where I currently live, and in TX have only lived in CS and have family in Houston).

My question(s) are what is the general area like in terms of housing, economy, quality of life, outdoor activities (fishing/hunting/golf), or any other info that those familiar with the area think could provide. I asked on the general board, and someone mentioned the city of Belton as a possibility as well.

Thanks in advance to anyone who has a second to answer, it's much appreciated!

Golf - just got a lot less available. Sammons in temple is being remodeled and leon valley is out of business. Right now you got Killeen Muni and mill creek, with Georgetown and Waco further up the road.

Hunting - deer everywhere in the western part of the county, just gotta fnd a place to hunt. Lampasas and burnet are adjacent to bell county. Plenty there.

Fishing/water skiing - lake belton and stillhouse hollow. Decent sized lakes, don't know about the fishing.

Housing - new and newer housing all over the county. Take your pick.

Quality of life - depends on what you like. Also, it is what you make it. Opinions vary widely - some love it, some hate it. Depends on the person. I think central Texas is nice. Somebody must agree because Bell and Williamson county are among the fastest growing areas in the country.

fishing is decent on belton.... pretty good on stillhouse.

i hunt deer in west texas, but dove and duck around here. Cool think about Corps of Engineer lakes is that they offer WMAs which allow you to hunt for free on Government land.

I did pretty good dove hunting and OK on ducks... but I'm really new to it ducks.

Just bought a house there....very good proximity to anything you need and a quick hop to Georgetown, Austin, and many other day trip-type places. Looks good for families..but I was only there a few days to check it out.
