How long do you want to ignore this user?
I have a conference in Corpus at the TAMU-CC campus the last weekend in September, and have a few questions. First off, let me say that it is a 9 1/2 -10 hour drive from here, so my company wants me to fly....so with that said

1) Where should I stay? Any place near the campus would be perferable. Somewhere in the $100 range or less would be good enough.

2) Would you try and take a taxi everywhere, or should I just try and rent a car? I've honestly never been to Corpus so I don't know if it's a long ways from the airport to the campus, or hotels. If so, I assume I should rent a car.

3) Is there any "non-chain" restaurant that I need to go to while I'm there?

Thanks for any advice

1. Not sure on this one

2. DEFINITELY rent a car. Public transportation in CC sucks. From the airport to TAMU-CC probably won't be that cheap.

3. Although I think it is a chain, my favorite is Waterstreet. I really love Imperial Cafe and Sushi on Staples!

Any mas questions...feel free to ask.

1) There aren't really any hotels close to campus. There is a LaQuinta that is easily accessable and about as close to campus as you can get. It's not bad.

2) DO RENT A CAR!!! It's a must.

3) Mexican...it begins and ends w/ Kiko's.
Pizza...Panjo's or B&J's
Seafood...if you really want good seafood, make the drive to Port Aransas. It's about 30 minutes from TAMUCC. Waterstreet is overrated.
Sushi...KOBE
Italian...Mamma Mia's
Thai...Thailand Restaurant
BBQ...Miller's BBQ (NOT Bill Miller's)
Steak...Longhorn Steak & Ale (NOT Longhorn Steak house)
Asian...Hu Dat

And if you really want wings, there's a Buffalo Wild Wings in CC. Granted not local, but better than Hooters.

Peter, is Longhorn Steak & Ale the one on Alameda or is that the one over by Hooters?

Whatever the Longhorn place on Alameda is called, it's pretty good. Good food and good drink specials.

Longhorn Steak & Ale is on Alameda, and better.

Longhorn Steak House is by Hooters.

Awesome, thanks for the suggestions....Sounds like I will either be visiting Kikos (love me some Mexican food) or Longhorn Steak & Ale.

The beauty of Corpus is you can get anywhere in the city in under 20 minutes. If you like the atmosphere, you could stay at one of the hotels on the beach on the island. It would be about a 10 minute drive to the A&M Corpus campus.
There is a Holiday Inn and a few other places to choose from if you are into that.

Acapulco is pretty good. Perhaps this is from my high school days, but we also loved going to Jaliscos. You can't miss Jaliscos, there are almost as many of them as there are Whataburgers.

Doc's is much better than Water Street. Their shrimp are better, price is the same, and the atmosphere is 10X better. Water Street can get noisy and is inside, a few blocks from the bay. Doc's is open to the air, sits on the Laguna Madre, and is perfect for sunset. Doc's is under the JFK bridge. Head east on SPID toward the island, take the turnaround after the JFK causeway, and follow the road to Doc's. Snoopies next door is good and more casual.

For breakfast, any mexican restaurant or try Town & Country. It is on Alameda at Everhart in Town & Country shopping center.

Rent a car, it is hard to get around CC without one.

And of course, visit the selena!

Shoot, if you're driving to Miller's for BBQ, you might as well go to Fermin's (at 77 and FM624) for the best Mexican food in town. Just had to throw that in.

Hey CDub, you corn fed river rat, there is a Miller's on Airline, you don't have to drive all the way to Leopard.

And now as long as you're headed to Fermin's, you might as well keep driving for the best BBQ in the land at Cotton's in Robstown.
