The Texas Gulf Surfing Association (TGSA) is kicking of the new 2007/2008 competition season with four Grom Roundups, which are completely free events for surfers aged 13 years and under (age determined as of January 1, 2008). These small competitions are designed to be fun events for the kids while introducing them to surfing competitions. Every grom will receive a free t-shirt, lunch and either a medal or trophy. The dates and locations are as follows:

August 11, 2006 – Ashlyn Shoemaker Memorial Grom Roundup presented by Surfrider Foundation Texas Chapter – Galveston

August 25, 2007 – Dorado’s Baja Bar & Grill and Island Native Surf House Grom Roundup presented by Surfrider Foundation Texas Chapter – South Padre Island

September 15, 2007 – Surfside Grom Roundup presented by Surfrider Foundation Texas Chapter – Surfside

September 22, 200706 – Ashlyn Shoemaker Memorial Grom Roundup presented by Port Aransas Surf Co. and Surfrider Foundation Texas Chapter – Port Aransas

If you want to come cheer on the kids this Saturday, the event starts at 8am at the 47th street jetty in Galveston. It's a fun time for all, come check it out!

That's "my boy" Mike Dean teaching in the second picture! That's great to see. Too bad it was flat as a lake out there this weekend. Not good for surfing, but excellent for getting pulled on your knee board by a 4X4! That is some fun stuff until you hit a sandbar!!
