Who's going this year? With NO in the cr@pper, it should be the largest party for a second year in a row.

I'm going both weekends.

I can't wait for Mardi Gras! I just decorated my house for it today, although I may add some Mardi Gras colored lights to my house later. I live a block from one of the parade routes.

So... when's the Texags Mardi Gras party at your place? I'll help chip in for a keg. lol.

Texags needs to rent one of the Strand balconies for next year's big parade(Momus). They could webcast the party on Texags. lol.

Renting a balcony would rock! If we got enough people to chip in, we could do it for next year. Seriously, I'd be all about that.

Oh hell yeah! I would chip in some money and beer to go to that!

Charles says he thinks you can still get a balcony this year. He said he remembers last year seeing classified ads the week before Mardi Gras. May look into it if there are people interested in spitting the cost.

Have a friend that gets invited to a balcony party every year on the Strand for the Momus parade. Her friend rents the balcony, then charges $40/person to get into the party. Invitation only. You get two drinks with the "cover", then it's cash bar or BYOB. You also get a certain number of beads to throw from the balcony to the crowd. I'm sure he more than covers the rental.

$40 a person, the drinks, and the beads, I think, is pretty reasonable. Me and the fiance would pay that. If someone has the means to set it up, post it here and we can start a guest list of TexAgs!

The balconies are around $1000 to rent, so you'd need enough people to make it worthwhile.

IF they run only $1000, 25 people at $40 a head would cover that. I'm sure we could get more than that. I know I could get at least 3, but possibly as many as 10.

A hundred people would give you $4000. That would make for a hell of a party!

The price is going to depend on the balcony size and the apartment, room, or floor of the building being used. This will also dictate how many people can be invited.

We need to work this from multiple angles, I'm keeping my eyes on the local classifieds, but if anyone knows an inside person (ie: Wrangler) we should work that.

A TexAgs balcony would be so much fun. Aggie flags would be flying on the Strand!

I don't live in Galveston anymore, but I'll see what I can dig up.

I have a friend that has a loft/balcony on the Strand. He is a former Tech RB so I don't know how he will feel about a bunch of Aggies in his house. He might be willing if he can realize a gain. He always has strangers paying a cover anyway. I'll mention it to him and see what he says. I'm always on a balcony with the Krewe of Momus, but I could skip a year to hang with a bunch of Ags.

I have found several krewe parties (you don't have to be a krewe member) that you can buy tickets to on the strand to have a location on a balcony via mardigrasgalveston.com. The tickets vary anywhere from $60 per person to $125 per person, some include food and drinks, others do not.

It's a start.

So... you want Texags to crash a krewe's party? I'm all for it! Where's the Knights of Momus party? At the Tremont House?

Momus will be at the same location as last year. The balcony at the SE corner of 22nd and Strand.

By the way, no go on my tech friend. He already has plans for his balcony.

This year's theme celebrates the animal kingdom.

Momus = hanging out with geriatrics and ugly girls from houston

barely worth the free booze when I was in h.s.

Guess we'll have to try again next year.

Time to start asking around and figuring out how to make this happen.

Who lives on the island that would be willing to do the leg work and find a balcony for next year?
McInnis 03

I live on the island, I'm not volunteering to do all the work, but if we can find enough info to make this happen, I can probably work fine details with the renting party.

Well, I made contact with the Roof Garden (probably the biggest balcony on the Strand) and they already have 5 clients in front of me, but their prices are HIGH and you'd have to find about 200 people to recoup your investment at about $110 a ticket to party.

Time to search for smaller balconies.

I was only able to go down for the first weekend this year, and at least half of the balconies had no one on them that Saturday night. Do they not rent them that first weekend or are they just so expensive that no one will rent them?

Isn't the Krewe of Aquarius largely made up of A&M Galveston people?

Never did find a balcony, but if you're up for hanging out with strangers, the Stars on the Brazos have a reasonably priced balcony in a primo location....

quote:
Stars on the Brazos Krewe Balcony Party – 5:00pm ‘til “the push”. Roof Garden, 2214 Strand on the balcony! Plenty of room for bead throwing. Tickets $125 per person for the weekend, with lunch, dinner draft beer and set-ups provided. Info: www.sobkrewe.com or e-mail mardigrastickets@sobkrewe.com or contact David Howarth at 979-665-9851, Vivian Alford at 9779-665-5060, or Staci Walden at 979-997-2100.

So you're there Friday and Saturday.
