Go every year in July and sometimes there's almost none, sometimes there's a ton.

What's it like this year?

Down there just about every week. Last week it was decently thick, but local paper says they are planning to clean it twice this year. Would have to imagine just before July 04th is one of those times. Think there are some live webcams that show the seawall. I am sure the quality of picture is crap but if you see a large dark band on the beach, then seaweed is bad.

From what I can tell, they cleaned it within last week.

Why does it matter? It's a beach. Beach = sand and seaweed. Growing up in San Diego there was seaweed all the time. It was just kinda there.

Seaweed in Galveston often provides a barrier to getting to the beach. Can be a foot deep and 10 feet with no breaks if they haven't cleaned it. It has decaying trash, fish, jelly fish, etc in it and stinks to high heaven. Makes an alreay bad beach practically unbearable. No comparison to San Diego.

Hey Coop,

Thanks for the info. We just got back. We were on the west end of the island. Seaweed was not bad and the cleaned it mid last week. It did look a little heavy on the seawall.
