I am tripping with a group of friends/roommates to Galveston this Thursday through Sunday (5th-8th.
I have been before but never on an extended stay... What recommendations do any of you have for us?

We plan to go to the beach for the most part and just hang out. We are staying in a condo, right on the seawall. Would it be best to go to the seawall beach, or take the ferry to crystal beach?

I am wanting to take a 12 hr fishing trip on either Friday or Saturday. Any good trips that I need to look in to?

I have been to fisherman's wharf before, and I thought it was pretty good, so I imagine we will go there at some point. Are there any other great restaurants that we need to go check out??

Thanks for all the help in advance.
Looking forward to this trip!

If it were me I would just walk across the street to go to the beach. But, you might want to ride the ferry across one day for the boat ride and because you can usually see dolphins from it. Just beware that on a busy weekend like that following the 4th there could be a long wait for the ferry. Other advantage is you can drive on beach and drink.

See above link for restaurant recommendations. Fisherman's Wharf is okay and I like the view from their deck but when it comes down to it it's just another Landry's chain restaurant.

Best place will probably be some beach access off of San Luis Pass, I always go to beach access 10. Seawall is going to be packed and the ferry line is going to be crazy.

Use Ave. O to move west on the island and Ave. P to move east.

Cafe Michael's Burger, Sonny's, Shrimp N' Stuff, Cajun Greek, and the Mosquito Café are some good food joints.

Here are some of my suggestions....

Places to eat:

- The Spot for hamburgers and alcoholic beverages (located on Seawall near 32nd street)
- Shrimp N’ Stuff is a hole in the wall seafood place (located on 39th street, the cross street is Avenue O)
- Benno’s has good fried cajun seafood/ casual (located on Seawall near 12th street)
- Gaido’s for formal dining with good seafood (located on Seawall at 39th street)
- Fisherman’s Wharf for seafood and outdoor dining right on the water (located on Harborside Dr, street leading to it is 21st street)
- Star Drug Store for sandwiches and burgers ( located on 23rd street, the cross street is Post Office)
- Original Mexican for good Mexican food (located on 14th street, the cross street is Market)
- Salsa’s for decent Mexican food and happy hour margaritas (located on Seawall near 45th street)
- Sunflower Bakery for breakfast (located on 14th street, the cross street is Post Office)
- La Kings is an old fashion ice cream/candy shop (located on the Strand, cross street is 23rd street)

Things to do:
- the beach
- sit over the water at Murdoch’s Bathhouse and enjoy a beer and the breeze
- go for a ferry ride to Bolivar
- shopping on the Strand
- Putt Putt golf (located on Seawall, near 90th street)
- Moody Gardens (a little pricey but it’s something to do…. They also have bands and fireworks each Friday and Saturday night)
- Schlitterbahn
- Tour a historic mansion (Moody Mansion, Ashton Villa, and Bishop’s Palace all located on Broadway Blvd.)
- Tour historic ship and watch The Great Storm documentary (on Harborside at Pier 21, right next to Fisherman’s Wharf)
- Rent a surfboard at Underground Surf Depot (on Seawall near 47th street) and go surfing
- Pleasure Pier (I haven’t been but it’s all the rage right now… haha)

Mi Abuelitas (sp?) for breakfast! It is fantastic!

Also, definitely go to The Spot! The shrimp po-boy and the ribeye po-boy are great! And you can add a side helping of the shrimp for $2.50 which turns the meal into A LOT!! Between the sandwich and the extra shrimp, you get like 20-25. I think from 3-7pm their appetizers are $6. It is also a great to take in the beverages of the alcoholic kind

-Olympia for Greek
-Original for Mexican
-Stay away from Bubba Gumps at Pleasure Pier, it was overpriced, and not very good seafood.
-mosquito Cafe is decent for lunch-get the lemon cake
-Shykatz (Shycats?) for lunch is also good
-Rudy and Pacos was meh. Nice, formal setting, but nothing spectacular
-Sushi Bar
