I've seen all the food threads here, but my question is gumbo-specific (a great name for a band, by the way)...

So where would you go for the best gumbo on Galveston Island?

Please don't go to gumbo bar...

The best I've had is at Sonny's. It's a little hole in the wall that barely has a sign out front. The burgers were okay, but the gumbo was awesome. I may be wrong, but I think they only have it on Fridays.

Yeah Sonny's is probably the best and it is only available on Fridays. Gumbo bar is not horrible, but I would not recommend. There are better options available. Landry's is horrible. Gaido's is okay in my book. Shrimp'n stuff has a pretty good one too.

honestly, i've never found a gumbo in galveston that i absolutely love.

good to know about sonny's....i haven't tried it yet.

i don't dislike gumbo bar, but everybody i eat lunch with hates it, so i guess i shouldn't recommend it.

seems like benno's has a decent gumbo...can anybody else confirm or deny?

I've had both Benno's and Sonny's and I'd rate them about equal.

Had Willie G's gumbo Wed night. They have a dark roux, but the gumbo is too thin for my liking. Not much flavor either. Won't order it again.

I had the prosciutto salmon for my course. I ended taking the prosciutto off. I think I learned a lesson. I love cold prosciutto just don't cook it.

I love the chicken & sausage gumbo from Leo's Cajun Corner.

I would also recommend Sonny's gumbo.

I like the gumbo at Shrimp N' Stuff.
