Beat Yates 28-7 on Saturday night.

Will face Brenham next. Friday night, 7 PM at Tully Stadium.

And Calhoun!

They beat Edcouch-Elsa on Friday. Lost to them a couple of years ago, so it was a good win.

So El Campo doubles or triples their total playoff win numbers over their entire history with one playoff run???? Good job...

What’s your problem Duffy. So, El Campo does not have a rich playoff history but it is better than what you suppose.

We have two playoff wins in 2004, losing to eventual State Champ Kilgore in the regionals.

We have three wins each in 2003 and 1998. In 2003, we lost to eventual State Champ La Marque in the quarter finals. In 1998, we lost to Silsbee in the regionals, who then lost to State finalist La Marque.

Historically, we also had three wins in 1967, losing in the state finals to Brownwood and the legendary Gordon Wood.

Our problem has always been La Marque. We have had the misfortune of meeting them in the first round of the playoffs five times in the last twelve years. In 2007, 2006, 2005, 1997 and 1996. We might have had decent playoff teams but each time they were better. In fact, in 2006, 1997 and 1996 they were the 4A State Champs.

Hopefully, we will have better success this year and go further than we ever have.

Is it illegal to talk a little smack about the high school rival? Just friendly banter....

I've always found it odd that EC bucks up to play their a**es off against Bay City over the last couple of decades but can never carry it into any type of playoff run. I guess it reminds me a little of the sips vs. ags...one team has the history and the hardware and the other doesn't, but it doesn't really matter when THAT game is played because it can go either way. One of the more underrated HS rivalries if you ask me.

It is the state’s oldest (102 years) and longest continuous (88 years). Strange things do happen when they meet up.

We usually have some talent to make the playoffs but not enough to sustain deep into it. We lost on Friday to Brenham 21-13. Brenham’ speed on defense was the deciding factor, in my opinion.

Yeah, I saw that. I live about a mile from Tully Stadium and asked the wife (she's originally from EC) if she wanted to go but she didn't. She didn't want to miss the Ags bball game on tv.

I didn't know those facts about the BC/EC game. That's good stuff.

That makes the playoff histories even more peculiar...weird!
