If you're staying put, you and the family take care and post on here afterwards to let us know your okay.

That goes for any of y'all living in or around Galveston/Freeport area.

I'm staying with a friend in Dallas. The rest of my family stayed behind. I have confirmation that everyone is in good health. Waiting on damage reports right now.

Looks like some spots on the island got hit hard. It will be interesting to ride around when I get back.

My folks and the rest of the family all left. They are waiting to see how bad it is. If they got any of the water damage, I'm going to head down that way probably Thursday night to help out.

I just got an update from my brother. His house took on two feet of water. He lives a couple blocks east of Oppe School. My parents took on four feet of water. They live near 48th and Ave L. He says most of the west end homes are still standing. That is great to hear considering Surf Side lost 20 homes.

He confirmed the only structure that still extends into the surf is the Flagship. Everything was wiped away.

Hope your brother's and folk's houses aren't too bad. From things my folks have heard, they think their home (46th & Woodrow, which is between S 1/2 and T) and my brother's home (41st & R 1/2) are okay. They think the water may have gotten under them but not in them.

Haven't heard anything about my sister's home. She lives in the Angleton area and has yet to return home.

My cousin who used to own Smitty's, had 6 feet of water in his house and he lives on Lewis lane over by Teichman road.

That sucks the Balinese, Murdock's and the rest are gone. Kind of surprised the flagship didn't go considering the condition the pier it sits on is in.

Hope all else is well and keep us updated.

I just got some alarming news. This is second hand from a former asst city manager. They live on 81st just a block away from the seawall. Apparantly they took on 6-8 feet of water. They also said they talked to a volounteer fireman and they are finding dead bodies. I can't seem to find anything to support this. I will try to text my brother. He is a reserve sheriff but it is hard to communicate.

Man, that would suck if it's true. So far the only deaths the news has reported was the 10 year old boy who's dad cut the tree down on him and a lady who died in her trailer when a tree fell on it. Who knows though with all the houses around Surfside and San Luis Pass area that took damage or were destroyed.

There have been numerous reports on the khou.com blogs of several bodies being found downtown. I posted on another thread questioning the reliability of these rumors. Pretty strange that no video from downtown (at least that's been on khou) has been aired.
