Well, thoughts?

WAY to early to tell where landing is going to be but everything I was indicates this storm will intensify quickly if/when it gets into the Gulf.

need to pray that bad bot stays clear of here. Not gonna be pretty wherever he lands....

I've heard it projected that this "bad bot" is going to be a Cat 3 when it hits land...and landfall in our area is not out of the realm of possibility.

I've got a strong feeling that it's going to hit somewhere between Baton Rouge and Houston. Being in Beaumont, that's not a good thing. I have a felling this will be an ugly one.

I`m in beaumont/pt. arthur also and made my arrangements to hightail it to College Station should we be told to get out. Gonna be a long holiday w/e watching tv !!

I'll start worrying when he becomes a hurricane again and they narrow the landfall range to less than, "...between Corpus Christi and Tampa Bay..."

I'm headed to Mazatlan on Friday morning and boarding two dogs at the vet's office - I have to sign a waiver if there is an evacuation called on Monday, which is when we are supposed to fly back. Hoepfully, this thing will stay to the east. Not that I wish a 'cane on anyone but you know what I mean.

For you folks in the Galveston/Bolivar area, any thoughts? I'm going to the game on Saturday and contemplating the drive down on Sunday to shore everything up.

gave my tickets to game to son and g/f in college station. We`ll be at beach this w/e (bolivar). Plan is board up sat. nite, back home to nederland, sun. a.m. get our stuff and leave sun. aft/eve.

Projected path is too close to Galveston County to suit me. I'm headed to Austin late tomorrow before the traffic nightmare begins.

With my uber-extensive meteorological experience, I've decided that Gustav is not coming close enough to Galveston to worry.

Looking much better for Texas this morning. Feel sorry for those that are going to get the brunt of the storm. We stayed during Alicia and lost our roof. Not fun staying in the house and watching the sheetrock ceilings collapse.

A couple of the models think it may hit near the TX/LA border, then will head SW and skirt the Texas Gulf Coast. Guess it all depends on what that high pressure area does.

Latest update from CBS in Beaumont is that it is looking closer to LA for the eye, putting us on the good side. Voluntary evac now, mandatory may come in the morning. Another update from CBS Beaumont in a couple of hours.

I heard that I-10 was a parking lot trying to leave Beaumont today. Can anyone confirm that for me? I have folks that I need to advise on what to do. How bad is it over there?

Personally Tom, we're not leaving Beaumont. They are saying now we may only get some thunderstorms, and it will actually get the people that have evacuated more north like to Tyler. We are still under mandatory evacuation, however. They are recommending people leave on 69 North, i-10 thru Winnie and Anahuac is congested. Yes, unless you have a special hologram sticker on your vehicle that had to be applied for way back, you will not be/ are not being allowed into the city. There are police at all the highway exits. Now, during Rita one could be creative and find ways in.....Also, there will most likely be a curfew enacted tonight for those of us here.

edited to add : I-10 is supposed to stay open, so you can drive thru the city, just supposedly can't exit into the city.

Thanks, vin. Seems like over-reaction by the "officials" to me. I told my folks to sit tight and we will decide tomorrow morning.

FormerStudent, there seems to be no roadblocks keeping people out of Beaumont now, some relatives came in from the Winnie area and had no problem getting into town.
