We've asked for prayers on the GB before for our friend Johnny (from Galveston) who is battling leukemia. Johnny is back in ICU today with another infection. Thoughts and prayers that Johnny can pull through all of this and be able to live a happy, healthy life.

What Johnny needs is for people to go to any Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center and give them Johnny's information so that a donation can be given directly to Johnny (it's called Direct Donations.)

Here's the reason: Regular whole blood donations are causing Johnny to react poorly and become very ill. In the regular donation process, people donate whole blood which is separated into 3 components: red cells, platelets and plasma. It could take many random donors to make one unit for Johnny -- and this could potentially be the root of the problem. Most people --even Johnny -- didn't have problems with random donations, it wasn't until he was diagnosed with AML that he had reactions.

Johnny has to receive blood every day so this is a big issue.

The parents are asking for anyone who can to go to any Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center and ask to give a Direct Donation specifically to Johnny. His MRN # 892868 is all they need, but you may also provide them with Jonathan Michael Romano DOB 4/23/98.

I know this is a time commitment and I know giving blood can be a little scary, but please consider it. It could save a life.

Johnny passed away this morning after a brave, long fight. I only know this family through their blog, but their story has changed my life.

I am smiling through tears because I know Johnny is whole again and happy with his Savior.
