IMO, the Rockport Country Club has the best course in the area.....

There are not many golf courses in the area. Public courses in C.C are Gabe Lozano, I would stay away from. and Oso Golf course, near Texas A&M-CC. Port A doesnt have any courses that I know of. You may want to check out Padre Isles and Northshore which are semi private. If you are willing to travel about 45 minutes I would check out Alice Municpal, Sinton Municipal and Kingsville which has Ramey golf course, is what I believe its called. Pharoahs is also semi private which is near the university, but I hear that course is in terrible shape. Hope that helps.

One is being built between Port A and CC, but I have no idea when it will be finished and if it will be private or not.

Northsore over Rockport, even if the A-hole snowbirds, etc. would let you play. I coached in Rockport from 88-92. Tommy Aycock, the Head pro at the time, would let me and the golf coach go off at 7am on a Sat. We'd be done by 10;15. If you are not a member, you're not good enough to play their course, even if you're good enough to teach their kids. I think they feel , like most country club a-holes, that if you don't have the mula, you aren't "good enough". How many teachers can afford a CC on that money? Even if we paid guest fees, they didn't want us there because we weren't playing with a member. Hell, if they could have broken 80, we'd have played with and embarrassed them. Northshore is more challenging.

we went with Padre Isles Country Club and was very dissapointed! Course was in terrible shape..many of the greens had lots of dead grass and some even had dirt spots on the green. The "Tee Boxes" looked as if someone had taken a weed eater to carpet grass and cut it as short as possible. In most places could not tell the diffrence from the fairway and the rough..paid $60..could not believe that this place was a country club.
Also something I couldnt believe..they were doing something to the grass on the course..and there was a truck out there dispensing what looked like fertilizer..well the truck was just driving up and down the fairways..and this was a full size truck with oversized tires..I couldnt believe it..you could see the truck putting ruts in the fairway. Also there is no area on the course where carts are not allowed..saw many people drive the cart right up to the greens and tee boxes. Even without a "carts return to path" sign.. I figured most golfers would not drive a cart right up to the green..but not here. But then again when you see full size trucks with no telling how many pounds of fertilizer driving up and down the fairways..guess they just figure a golf cart can go anywhere.

Should've went to Northshore. Played there once, and it's a nice, but VERY difficult course. Greens were like glass when I played years ago. It was fairly expensive, but well worth it.
