No bar. But 5 minutes in and out of both sides. Pretty nice in that way.

My Dad was a flight instructor there when I was little, I spent a couple years either in the back seat of his 172 or running around the flight school. It's a nice place and a bigger airport than you'd think. Still stop by from time to time.

No bar, but convenient as hell to get in and out quickly

There is a restaurant over by the tower and museum. It's pretty good food - we fly up to eat there every now and then.

I love the Tyler airport. If I'm not checking a bag, I can leave my house 45 minutes before my flight and be at the gate in plenty of time.

You may not notice this flying commercial, but the first time I flew into to Tyler, I remember freaking out a bit because at the end of one of the runways, there is a slight hill. So coming on this particular runway, you will land uphill. It's not a big deal at all for an experienced pilot who has landed there hundreds of times, but it will freak you out the first time if you're not paying attention.

Love flying out of the Tyler airport. It pretty much evens out with DFW, when you include drive time, gas and parking at DFW.

What's weird/cool about it is it's sometimes cheaper to fly out of Tyler than it is to drive to DFW and fly. Not always but about half the time. I've only seen it once or twice where it was more expensive...if it's not cheaper it's usually around the same price. So as far as hassle goes, I usually go out of Tyler. It did bite me in the butt once earlier this year when I had the last flight from DFW to Tyler one night and it got cancelled. Rental cars one way SUCK!!!

My report is: not much to report (which is good). We were in and out of the place so fast I didn't have time to look around. I remember some vending machines and that's about it.

My bro picked us up and was able to park, at most, 20 yards from the front door.

Beats the crap out of driving/parking at DFW.

I picked up my sister at the airport over Christmas, and she was amazed that I was able to leave the car running (with nobody in it) on the curb while I went into baggage claim to help her with her bags. You sure can't do that at DFW.

The wife always parks on the curb and brings the kids inside to pick me up when I fly in. They love the baggage claim.

Go land on Navasota's north runway and get back to me. My partner in our plane almost prop struck because he was so uncomfortable with the sight picture. It's always fun landing without touching the brakes.

I fly into a small 1500' grass strip stuck in the middle of the woods a lot, that's an awesome rush slipping in behind the power curve over pine trees!

Is this your uncles plane gigem? It's becoming famous if it is.

Yes that's his plane - that's on his private strip about a half a mile from our house. They literally try to cut the grass on that strip every weekend with whatever they are flying that day!!

It's a great grass runway to practice grass on. 3000' and very few obstacles. It has a gentle slope going north. The ground is good and hard and it doesn't get too muddy.... Just in case you are ever up that way, he doesn't mind people landing and saying hi if he is around. Most of his other vintage craft are kept at the airport but the hanger is usually open and you can go over there too. The c-47 stays at his private hanger.

The strip is called Glover Field - SW of Mt Pleasant, west/northwest of KOSA (about 5 miles). Easy way to find it is to look for the lignite mines just north of the power plant on the lake - the strip runs parallel to the mines on the other side of the east boundary.
