Fastest route to CS from Tyler

I'm interested in everyone's preferred route to Aggieland.

This weekend we took 155 to Palestine, 79 to Jewett, 39 to North Zulch, and 21 into Bryan and I think it was right around 2.5 hrs. Is another route better/faster??

You've got it! If you take 45 to madisonville you'll add a little time and if you take 79 all the way to Hearne you'll add even more time.

It is the correct one. But the stretch from Palestine to Buffalo is the worst drive in Texas, and the next stage adds no pleasure: 1) drive carefully and 2)as J. Garcia said, "Watch yo' speed". If you fail to do so you could meet the force mobile

Buffalo is a horrible speed trap. And 2.5 hrs is good, it can get much longer when you're stuck behind an 18 wheeler on 79 between Palestine and Buffalo..

Growing up in Mt. Pleasant, I've tried every route possible between there and BCS (via Tyler).

The one the OP said is the correct one. And yes...Palestine to Buffalo is one of the biggest stretches of suck in Texas.

Do yall count Tyler as intersecton of 155 and loop? When I get there , it is still 15 minutes, traffic or no traffice to the house.

From Buffalo I will go I-45 to ORS then over to 39. You can go 75 mph and has shoulders. 39 does not for most of the way I think?

I definitely think 155 to 79 to 45 to OSR to 39 is the best way to CS. Drive it almost every weekend and it takes a little less than 2.5 hrs from Tyler.

I have made it that way from Time Out on 155 to South College Station in 2 hours.

The only difference is I usually take 45 to OSR to 39 to 21.

And that was dangerous driving the whole way.

Not the smartest thing ever.

At least you're not like me and have to drive between Athens and Palestine. THAT is the worst stretch in Texas.

i usually take the OP's route, although i may have to try the OSR cutoff next time i go.

also, FLYING from Tyler to CS takes about 45 min to 1 hr. i am now spoiled and not sure if i will ever drive it again.

Game days I go 155/79/39/OSR/6 same way back. Less traffic on OSR 2.25hrs from CS to east side of Tyler

Try 79
45 to Centerville
7 to 39
39 to 21

That way bypasses Buffalo and Jewett and you can stop at Woody's. It may add a little mileage, but you can drive 80 going south on 45 and then 70 on 7 to 39. That is a lot higher speed then drivong through West Buffalo and Jewett.

you guys saying those drives are the worst in Texas haven't lived in certain parts of Texas west of Junction.

I'd love to drive down there tomorrow.

I'm assuming you mean brutally boring? This drive sucks due to the large amount of traffic, typically slow drivers, absolutely no room to pass for about 30 miles, blind hills/curves etc etc

Agree with above; from Buffalo, 45 S to OSR, to 39 at Normangee S to N Zulch then 21 to BCS.
Little to no traffic on OSR and 39 but be safe, lost Joey V from jacksonville on that route.

This might be the one advantage to growing up in Arp--you can take 21 to B/CS most of the way. Not as fast, but much more scenic.

I am in Jacksonville and I drive 79 to 45. Down to Hwy 75 into Madisonville. Its 2 hrs 15 min any way you go. Those are just the nicest roads. Way better than taking OSR!!

No cell service from Jewett to North Zulch.
If you take 45 to OSR you can at least talk on the phone.

Jewett to N Zulch is a rather short stretch. I can usually survive it.
