going to be in tyler this weekend with the wife. looking for a place to eat friday night and for suggestions on anything she might enjoy seeing around there on saturday. i imagine we're a little early for the azaleas.

I always recommend Villa Montez to out of towners. If the weather is nice, the rooftop at Jakes is good for an after dinner drink. Call to see if its open though.

Things to do:
Drive around the Azalea District and check out the old houses
Tour the area around the Cascades Country Club

I forgot about Stanleys. Love that place. Summer nights when there is a band on the deck are great. They also have a killer frito pie, and I blame the brother-in-law for a good 5 pounds I'm carrying right now.

Caldwell Zoo is a great zoo for a small town. If you live in a major city with a good zoo, you probably wont be impressed, however, I would venture to say that for towns of 100k, it's probably one of the best zoos in the country.

Some people like the rose garden. I don't, but some people do.

Tyler State park has some of the best mountain bike trails in the state. The tiger sanctuary across the street from the park is also pretty cool.

....you could also find a place on the loop (preferably on the north side) to park and check out all the "old-people" cars with gigantic wheels and tires. i believe the locals call them "donks" or "skids". my office faces the loop and when i have a bad day...it cheers me up.
