Yea, a Pittsburg Texan flew a powered aircraft BEFORE Orville and Wilbur Wright's Kitty Hawk at Kill Devil Hill, S.C..

Check out: The Ezekiel Ariship on your search engine.

Great little museum with video and recreated static display.

Wasn't the flight of that "air ship" a whopping distance of 3 feet? By the way, when you visit the museum, have the hot links! They are worth the trip!

Center of town, Bo Pilgrim Bell Tower has an interesting 12 noon carillon.

No trip to Pittsburg is complete until you go downtown and get some hotlinks. Tell them you want a cup of gravy (chili) on the side.

Much more than three feet. It jumped a fence.
According to witnesses, it flew a considerable distance (seemingly out of flight control).

Travel to Pittsburg, Tx. Pay admission fee to museum.
Watch film.
Observe internal combustion engine on static airship display. Witness and read statements of the powered flight.

The airship flew (not for very long, but it flew, under motorized power, with a pilot at a control system.)

Reverend Cannon had no East Coast P.R. machine to publicise the event.

It's that simple !

It was motorized (to drive the circular wheels). Accordingly to verifiable witnesses it did fly under power (IF in a somewhat brief and awkward flight).

Had that little Texas airship had not met it's railroad flat-car fate between Pittsburg and Texarkana Rev. Cannon may have made it into aviation history books.

Visit museum. Watch film. Notice engine placement in the recreated static display.
