just got another update.

fire is reaching or has passed 20,000 acres. if you know the area, imagine the triangle that hgwy 155, hgwy 59, and hgwy 49 make between linden, jefferson and avinger. the fire in broad terms is burning from hgwy 155 all the way to the intersection of 49 and 59.

now, i have been told that they are not trying to put the fire out but rather trying to save homes and structures. i cannot confirm this is the strategy but it is the rumor.

there are now also reports of two more fires in north central cass county. one near flat creek and the other near centerville. they do think these two fires are man made.

what can you do? call Pinecrest Baptist Church in Linden. (903) 756-7428. the volunteer center is being run there.

the thing they need most is MONEY. they say that there is enough water and food for now but that they need money to buy fuel and medical things.

if you want to physically volunteer, they will put you on the schedule to do so.

Anybody know if the fire has hopped 59 between Jefferson and Linden?

i just made the drive fro avinger to linden to jefferson back to avinger

the fire has not jumped 59.

it tried to jump 49 but was extinguished. the fire is still inside of the triangle formed by 59, 49 and 155

now, when we drove it yesterday, we saw no evidence of the fire having jumped hgwy 59. there was plenty of evidence of it jumping hgwy 49, including seeing actual flame.

it is up to 40,000 acres.

jorts- i drove through lassater yesterday evening at about 6:30pm. the fire was def. burning there but looked to be a half mile or more off east of hgwy 49. turns out I am really bad at judging distance when it comes to wildfires.

Any updates?

I'm being told the winds have changed and things might be dying down.

umm, i haven't had any lately.

i can tell you that a quick look outside my house tells me it has died down tremendously or moved far away from avinger.

last i had heard was that it was up to 49,000 acres and 40% contained. that was about 11am this morning.
