Tell me about it....

What should i know about the place that I will soon be calling home? Im 23 years old and single, what side of town should I live on? Any cool bars I should check out?

Anything at all helps, because I literally know nothing about the place.

You'll definitely want to live on the north side of town. There's a new apartment complex called Longfellow Arms (I think) that all of the new hires I work with live in. As far as bars there's McCann Street, the Sports Page, Graham Central Station and who knows what else. It's been a while since I was in the clubbing loop.

i'm from longview and couldn't imagine moving back there being young and single. avoid the sports page and graham. full of townies who want to live the glory days by starting fights.

there is a blonde bartender at graham that i went to school with that is smoking hot, but don't waste your time...i think she has like 5 kids now.

take advantage of being close to a lot of lakes and make friends with someone who has a lakehouse on lake cherokee and go troll the island for some trim.

eat at jucy's, dudley's, gonzalos' and el sombrero for me.

BMach - I'm organizing an A&M Club here in Marshall (30 minutes east of Longview). We should be having get-togethers soon. I think there's more to do in Marshall than Longview (if you can believe that)as far as bars and a younger crowd. We have block parties downtown Marshall usually once a month.

don't ever travel south of highway 80 for that matter

have friends who live in dallas/austin/houston and visit often

if you're looking for tang, it should be easy - just not necessarily quality.

I do NOT remotely believe that but as a native Longviewite I never went out in Marshall. I do commend you on the A&M club though. I never understood why there wasn't one in the area. Last I recall the only A&M club was in White Oak. Makes no sense that Longview doesn't have one.

I believe Sports Page has been renamed but unless the clientele has changed do not ever go there. Smoky and fights every 2 seconds.

I'm not even sure where to tell you to go at your age anymore but there are quite a few more bars than mentioned on here. I just can't think of the name of any of them right now.

And I think you will be pleasantly surprised at how hot the women are. I'm always shocked at that on the rare occasion I actually go out in Longview when I'm back in town.

Believe what you want... there isn't all that much to do in Longview that you can't do in Marshall. The BWW in Longview is pretty rough, so I wouldn't exactly count that. Grahams? Go for it! I've never been to the Sports Page. Pretty much the only reason I go to Longview anymore is to go to Academy.

We have a bar in downtown Marshall that is usually pretty hoping on the weekends and usually full of people in their 20's. There is a place down the street from that bar that has block parties every other weekend or so. The block parties are usually a good time because you can bring a cooler and chairs and hangout and drink your own beer. Also...we usually have live music playing in one bar almost every weekend.

I'll give you Longview has better chain restaurants...Cheddars, Olive Garden, etc...but I prefer cooking at home so that doesn't bother me much.

Sounds dismal at best, but I couldnt refuse the job offer. easttxag keep me posted on the A&M club, and Ill definitely check out Marshall.

However, you couldn't be more off base on the chick analysis. Longview has some talent, Tyler has more. Marshall has none.

Those block parties are crap. Every girl there is either fat, married or pregnant. Usually all of the above.

I've posted it before, if your going to live in that part of the state, you need to import a girl from somewhere else.

where are you going to be working, bmach? eastman?

BMach, there is an A&M Club in Longview, called the Deep East Texas A&M Club.

Volunteers are in the process of trying to rejuvenate the Club, and there is a survey on the Club's website asking for feedback from Aggies in Gregg County.

I'll be Based out of Longview, but I'll be working in Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and east Texas

Im from Longview, and I couldn't imagine going back to live there. Someone always wants to fight you for something back in High School and everyone has slept with everyone. I can't tell you any good bars or places to go because I never go out when I am there.

They have good restaurants though:

Fritz's off of Judson Road (actually the bar in here is pretty chill nice place for a beer, not much tail though)

The Butcher Shop - best burgers in town maybe Texas, its all in the buns

Dudley's - best cajun food imo.

Juicy's Burgers - good burgers and more locations than the butcher shop.

thats all I can think of now.

avoid the sports page and graham's most of the time they have good Texas country concerts every once in awhile.

I have heard of a place called Benny's (never been but I know they have live music a lot)

Hope this helps and USE PROTECTION with the girls in Longview.

Haha thanks for the advice 86, I've been in Leons Steakhouse a couple times after work for a few beers, not a bad place to wind down.

This. I'm from Longview and if I ever were to move back, I'd bring the girl from somewhere else.

Lived in Lview from age 3 to 18.

If you're there long term, you'll want to bring your imported girl to the north side of town. The Spring Hill ISD is where you'll want your mini-BMach's enrolled eventually.

Longview was a decent place for me to grow up but like others have said, I couldn't imaging moving back.

But if you do like small towns, it's not a bad one.

I thought of a great bar for you to go to.

It's called Streakers.

Streakers' is now Jaguars and it still sucks ass. Maybe worse.

I'm in the View today visiting an office of mine.

The only place in this town to meet clean people (and they're relatively sparce even there) is Gerald's.

Do not waste your time at Graham's or Sport's Page or the Levee unless you're an oil field grunt looking for a chick who says "me and Jane went to the mall" and has a chinese target tattoo.

Bring a woman with you and live in Spring Hill and take many, many, many vacations and get an apartment in Shreveport, or you will die a slow and miserable death due to boredom and mental asphyxiation from the overwhelming lack of taste, intellect, and style.

I can not recommend living in Tyler and commuting enough...

I'll second Gerald's. It's the only place I will go out in Longview on the rare occasion I go out that is.

I am seeing more and more everyday what y'all are talking about with the level o intelligence these people have. I am currently living in Tyler.

As a 43 year old (nearly) I remember being 23 and not wanting advice from people who thought they were older and wiser, but I'm asking you to PLEASE seriously consider staying in Tyler and commuting.

Longview is absolutely awful, and everything around it (Hallsville, Tatum, Gilmer) is worse.

I know the drive is a mother, and commuting an hour to and from work is never fun, but your quality of life will be SO MUCH BETTER if you just stay put and suffer through the drive. Make important phone calls, do whatever, but if you life in Longview your life will SUCK.

I live in Tyler and the talent is WAAAAAYY better than Longview.

I never lived in Longview but went to school there, not a bad place if you find the right crowd. Def bring your woman from somewhere else though.
