I am graduating in December and I've landed a call-back interview/plant tour for a company in Marshall.

Can anyone tell me a bit about living in this area? (cost of living, crime rates, demographics, etc) I've been there a couple of times, but I do not know much about it.

For some odd reason, that town has two Whataburgers within a three minute drive of each other.

Not much to do there besides get married and procreate.

However, there's much worse places to live.

like previous poster said, there aint much to do there unless you like fishing and hunting and drinking.

If you're going to live there, I'd recommend importing a chick from some other part of the state. The girls there look like crap.

Caddo Lake dominates, if you're into outdoors stuff.

Shreveport is right down the road. It's a cool place if you don't get robbed or jacked on the way into town.

Marshall is not a bad small town to live in. The racial makeup of the city was 54.66% White, 38.59% African American, Hispanic or Latino of any race were 8.64% of the population.
They are right not a whole lot to do unless you are in to the outdoors stuff then you are ok.

I had an co-op job in Longview, and really enjoyed the area. Had a few good friends that lived in Marshall at the time. Like people have said it's a pretty small town without much to do, but Longview is about 30 min away Shreveport is about 30 min away with plenty of stuff to keep you occupied.

Yeah I have some (distant) family from my Mom's side up there. Don't really know any of them, but they are great people (from the 2 times I've met some of them.) I am very much into the outdoors, so I like that aspect.

Caddo Lake is a great lake for outdoorsman. But, having known people that live in Marshall, the posters on this board are right- ain't much going on.

Not that it's a bad thing to not have much going on- the people I've known that live there said it moves slow- which is kinda nice, depending on what you are looking to get outta life.

I just relocated to Marshall with my fiance...I grew up in the Hill Country...lived in Dallas after graduating for a few years..and am glad to be back in a small town. I can tell you this, I would not want to live here moving here not knowing anyone...there is one bar and not a ton of quality single people probably. I dont know really...but that would be my guess. My fiance grew up here, came back after college, and after a year decided Dallas would be better for him as a bachelor.

So thats my two cents...

I grew up there and would NEVER move back. Even around ten years ago, there were some definite racial issues there.

What company are you interviewing with?

If you gotta work in Marshall I'd rather live in Jefferson. Regardless, if you're young and single it's going to suck and suck bad.
