Anyone have any recommendations?

My grandfather fell and has a brain bleed and they have pretty much said when he leaves he will not be able to go back home and will need an assisted living place. My mother and father are there looking right now but I would like to be of some help from afar if at all possible.

I know it is a long shot but you never know how people can help on here.

It's not a long shot at all. My family in Tyler owns several facilities that provide all levels of care.

In fact, a certain poster here works at one.

I work in the business office at the Waterton Plaza in Tyler. My uncle owns the facility and we do handle all levels of care.

Judging by what the doctors said about her brain injury, an assisted living facility would not be approparite.

From the article, the Jenny King chick is exactly correct. The Medicare ratings are a joke. The acuity level of residents varies greatly among different homes. Some facilities only accept ambulatory, fairly healthy people.

Other homes will accept a person on a vent with a stage IV decub.

Of course there will be a difference in surveys.

And all survey teams are different.

Thank you. My mom has put it off until later in the week as my grandmother just can not handle it right now.

I am not sure exactly what the doctors are saying but it seems that they are mostly worried about his ability to recover from this due to his age. My grandmother wants to be with him as well so they are looking at places where she can live with him as well.

I understand your family wanting to be together during this time. In the past, we have work out arrangements to allow family members to stay together as long as possible and I am sure that we accomidate what ever your families needs are.

When ever you are ready to talk and get all the information that you need, please allow me to help. Even if you do not choose one our facilties, I will help out in what ever way you need.

They worked really hard to get him in the extended stay portion of the hospital while they figure it all out.

He is up and walking now but he still can't really get his thoughts in order. He doesn't know what year it is or what is going on etc.

Well he actually took a turn for the worst and the doctor said he doesn't expect him to recover. He has stopped eating and has a directive not to artificially prolong his life so no feeding tube will be inserted. He will be transferred to hospice on Tuesday. We are going there this weekend to see him one last time.

I was not involved in the choosing of that... but thanks for the help.

It was great to see him. He recognized me right away and kept telling me how beautiful I was and commented on my husbands Aggie shirt and shook his hand.

Some of you very well may know him. He was a rather important man around Tyler for a while.

He passed away early this morning.
