It is extremely disappointing to see that our school districts are hiring/have hired folks to teach that have felonies on their record. Virtually every school district requires a statement that an applicant identify any felonies that they have been charged/convicted of. Recently districts are having to fingerprint all employees and apparently this stuff is coming out.
I have spent more than 40 years working in the education area as a teacher, and administrator both public/private, valley/out of the valley and I don't think I have ever come across an application of a teacher that had felony that was even considered. I know that I don't want anyone that is a serial DUI felon teaching my grandkids!
It is easy to think that this is a public school vs private school issue but is isn't that clear cut. Most of us think that our school is fine, it is all those other schools that have problems...not so.
