Since the flooding from Hurricane Dolly left the mosquito population exploding, planes have been spraying an insecticide to control them.
QUESTION - Why does this same insecticide not control the flies and gnats?

Because mosquitoes are attracted to carbon dioxide, which is why they get killed.

The poison attacks all bugs, but mosquitoes are most suspect to that poison. And the mosquitoes skin is more transparent and the poison gets in there better because flies skin is harder.

It is kind of like spraying cotton for boll weevil and it only kills the bug and not the cotton germ.

It's got to be because the flies and gnats are living in the self portrait of Ash and the insecticide cannot penetrate the "defense".
