About time, don't know how the UIL let you get away with that all these years. At least all the schools can talk smack to each other now and leave the rest of us on this board that left high school behind when we graduated alone.

I was involved in the process of moving from one high school to three high schools in McAllen. I hope that the folks in La Joya, show good sense in making this change. This may not be the best decision for football but it is very important for the well being of the kids and their education. The parents/kids in La Joya need to keep the rivalry between the schools in check.

When McHi was in its heyday, there were 3900 kids at that achoool. When one high school has that many kids, there are lots of great kids that don''t get to play football, basketball, tennis, become valedictorian, and participant in all the activities that are available.

The process has happened in almost every large town(s) in the valley. Now there are three high schools in PSJA, Edinburg, McAllen, and two high schools in several other cities. I wouldn't be surprised to see Sharyland High School split in the next few years. Brownsville moved from one giant high school, now they have seven. Imagine the number of kids that get to participate in "high school" that would not have had the opportunity.

with as many chuntaros are there are in the la joya area i'm surprised any of them actually graduate from high school.

and as far as football in la joya goes...it's not like they're on their 5th state title in as many years. they've never been able to move beyond the 2nd round in like ever.

George,

Hmmm... Well I wasn't too sure what "chuntaros" meant but if I can trust google it means "poor youth of Northeast Mexico". You are right that there are lots of very poor people in La Joya. It is one of the only areas in the valley with land values cheap enough for people with little in the way of resources.

You reinforced the point that I was trying to make regarding football. Valley teams have historically done poorly in most sports. Unfortunately many adults have rose colored glasses regarding the sports exploits of our high schools. If you listen to some (even our silly sportscasters), you would think that our teams are only one step behind Plano or Judson. I was just hoping that the adults in the valley make decisions based on what is best for the kids and not our enjoyment of sports. I think La Joya did this exact thing.

The problem is that mexicans are built like runty cornerbacks. Even our linemen (pinches gordos) would be better suited to be water boys anywhere north of cotulla.

As is typical of me I'm going to argue against the misconception that its our talent level thats the problem with doing poorly in sports across the valley.

It is not. I repeat, it is not a lack of talent. It is a lack of coaching that is the problem. We use recycled coaches from other valley schools that bring nothing new to the equation. Just look at our basic offensive and defensive schemes valley schools run as compared to other schools across the state. The big boys run everything from an option offense to a wide open spread run and shoot type offense. While valley schools are still running wing T, power I, and two tight end sets that more talented defenses can shut down cause they've been playing against that offense since pop warner. Our defenses are so used to shutting down the run that once we play a team that can pass we break down cause we're out of alignment.

Bring in fresh faces with new ideas and quit retreading the same old tired coaches. Just look at what successful valley teams have done to win. Most, if not all have brought in coaches from outside the valley in order to win. Once they win, they leave. Why? Cause we're not willing pay them or cause we run them out of town with our incessant politics that a valley guy can do better.

Its not about talent. It's about coaching. It's about using what you have and making it successful.

If life gives you lemons....you make lemonade. Valley teams give you little fellas.....stop trying to run the ball and use your speed and quickness to open the field up. Duh!

as you probably sees in la joya puro coyotes we runs what the defenses y todo gives us but our coaches knows how to beats the bests team in el vale tough to go up north because theys bes faster than us puro coyotes we don't lose we just run out of plays to call that become effective our boys have the hearts and dedications to take it to da state vato sometimes we justs can't get good matchups.

just like in basketballs my longhorns got beats in mizzu but nots because we were out talented because their coaches planned more better than our boys and agys lose last night because el general is el vato loco y todo y throw chairs y todo and make those boys shoot better you agys don't have the hearts as puro coyote and puro longhorns do!!!!!!!!!JUANONEJUANONE!!!!!!!EEESSSOOOOOO

Donna's the only Valley school to win state in football. 'Course that was in back in 1961. In the 1980s Port Isabel had some pretty good teams.
