Anyone with experience living in/around Alpine? Looking at relocating there for a job opportunity. I know it's very remote, and not a lot of activities compared to Houston, etc. That part doesn't bother me. Being closer to Big Bend is a plus as well.
Wondering more about day to day there. Hospitals, services, etc., and if you enjoyed living in the area.
TIA. Gig'em.
My sister & BIL have been retired down there for about a year now. They like it.
They used to visit Big Bend 2-3 times a year from SE Texas. Now the trip is shorter.
They were told that for bulk items that can't be shipped they need to drive to Midland where I am.
But I haven't heard if she came to town or not to be honest. We've had a lot going on though.
It is Hot & Dry in the Summer and Cool/Cold & Dry in the Winter. Don't expect it to rain much.
Rain is typically accompanied with lightning and occasionally hail.
It's about 4500 ft above sea level, where Midland is 2800 ft.
My sister was happy to see snow in the winter, since we are originally from Houston Area.
I think the hospital in Alpine is Big Bend Regional.
https://www.bigbendhealthcare.com/big-bend-regional-medical-center/servicesFort Davis has a telescope, Balmorea has a natural spring pool, Guadalupe peak & Carlsbad caverns is to the north, I think there is a dude ranch that the kids went to with their school and of course Big Bend itself.
Lake Amistad is a huge lake and the nearest large body of water,
