Howdy! My fiance took a job promotion that is relocating us to Midland. Since he initially mentioned the move, I've been fairly proactive in getting us set up from afar (found an apartment, moving company, etc.).

I will also need to find a job. I am an A&M grad with a Bioenvironmental Science degree. I realize the job market is booming in this area but any suggestions are surely welcome and appreciated.

In all, I really just want to get an idea of the area. We are moving from the Galveston area so we'll be a long way from home.

Thanks in advance for any tips anyone is willing to share!

If you have a linkedin account, change your location to midland, and see if stuff starts to pop up.

Also, there's that one petro site that does job search things for Permian places. There are some pretty neat jobs you can get that aren't necessarily petro!

Best of luck, hope to meet y'all soon! Grub Burger on Andrabeth

If you are wanting an 8-5 without any weekend or holiday work, look at UTPB. Lots of open positions. Pay isn't wonderful but the benefits and hours are. Here's a link to one you might be interested in.

Good luck and welcome to the basin.

Thank you all for your help!

I visited Midland (for the first time) this past weekend and it seems like it'll be a nice place to live. The job search continues but at least I am a little more familiar with the area.

Andrabeth: We don't officially move until mid-October but once we are settled in, I will get in touch and take you up on your offer. Thank you!

Predmid: Come on, y'all can make a little room for 2 Ags, can't ya?!

We already have have between 8,000 - 10,000 unit housing shortage right now. let's make it 10,001.

If you encounter anyone who remotely tries to claim "oh, the boom is slowing down", slap them in the face and tell them shut up, shut up, shut up. Housing demand, sales tax receipts, total employment, workforce size, etc. etc. all of those numbers are up over last year.

Welcome tnicb. There are tons of oilfield Environmental Consulting firms. All are very busy. You shouldn't have any trouble finding work. Midland is like anywhere else, it's what you make of it. I'm from Texas City myself. Been in Midland since 89. I miss the coast sometimes, but Midland is a great place to live. If you were single, it might be more difficult. Just get plugged in with your husband in church, A&M club, etc. etc.. You'll meet some great people. As far as housing, focus on North and Northwest side. It's tends to be nicer and that is the direction Midland is growing.

Predmid: Thankfully, I was able to lock down an apartment very quickly upon learning about our move. Several people informed me how difficult it was to acquire housing and how costly it would be in the area so I'm glad I was able to find something reasonable.

Oh, I certainly have no doubts that the boom is still in full force.

Midland Aggie: Our housing is on the Northside and seems to be in a good area. I am from Santa Fe and my Dad (and his entire side) is from TC...small world!

Once we get completely moved and settled, I think we'll be okay. I feel better now that I've visited the area. I appreciate the info!
