Howdy all,

A friend that I graduated with is still struggling to find a job. I decided I'd try and help him out by joining the hunt with him (mostly so I can get a roommate to cut down on the crazy rent).

I know there are people always hiring here in West Texas, but I'm just not quite sure where to get started.

His degree is in comm with business minor, so unfortunately no current experience in oil.

Any advice, or a good site for job listings around the area are much appreciated.

Best of luck to your friend, he at least has the housing settled.

If nothing comes up immediately and I know he should be able to find better - Walmart still had $14/hr to start last time I looked. Waiter with tips will do better. Substitute teaching is about $100/day.

Don't discount the school system or local government jobs since many people leave it to work for oil companies.

BTW, I am not trying to be demeaning about the jobs I mentioned for your friend. Everyone has different reasons and pressures to take a job. Some can afford to wait while others cannot.
My perspective comes from when I came to Midland in the lean early 1990s and took whatever job I could find to feed the wife and kids. I got in the door to what is now a 20 year career that I plan on retiring from in about 20 more.

Try Apache. I know they required a 4 year degree to work in their purchasing department, even if it was Psychology, Communication, etc.

I think PXD is hiring lease operators. Might check that out.

Lease Operators(Pumpers) are making a good chunk of change these days. Starting pay for many is around the 28-30/hr mark. With a degree, he may be able to move ahead a bit quicker and make Foreman or have other options for the operator.

There are more jobs here than you can shake a stick at. I'm looking for a few sales people here in west Texas as well as in south Texas. If gas prices reach $5.50 then this area will implode.
