Any insider tips/recommendations on things to eat or do that I can't find on a website? We're actually having to stay in Alpine, everything in Marfa was sold out.

Advice on a route? Was planning to take Hwy 90 out there, it's longer coming from Houston but supposedly more scenic. Definitely taking I-10 back.

What about border patrol stops? I hear there are a few out there, what kind of experience should I expect?

Border patrol will not mess with you.

In alpine, eat at Reata. YWIA

Marfa lights at 30 minutes after sunset. There is an observation deck on the highway between marfa and alpine. If you don't know what the marfa lights are, look it up before you go out there. Also known an the marfa mystery lights.

If you are an artsy person, check out the chinati art place. Don't remember the exact name.

The hotel paisano in marfa has a nice bar and patio to get drinks and food.

I know the part owner of Padres bar in marfa. Never have been, but they have live music and drinks. Can't go wrong with that.

Also, alpine is one of my favorite towns in Texas. A little oasis of a town with aggies ties. Sul Ross University.

I used to own the only funeral home in alpine. Just sold it in July.

Thanks for the insider info Mucho! Alpine is a beautiful town, we may just stay here haha! Jk, I didn't drive all this way to not witness some supernatural twinkles.

And depending on where you are going home, don't miss out a chance to drive through fort Davis to Balmorhea on highway 17. One of the best scenic and fun riding highways in the state.

I have heard that the odds of seeing the Marfa lights increase as your BAC increases.

Haha, I'm sure for some, but I've always been sober. Saw them when I was 12, and I've seen them about 3 times in the last 2 years.

I've seen them each time I've tried.

I can see how they would be easy to miss if you don't know what you are looking for.
