Who here is familiar with this town? I will be moving there Friday and I need to try and find an rv park that I can stay at until my company builds us a few spots.

Also, if there is any good restaurants please let me know. From what I have found there isn't much there.

They do have a DQ.
There is a small cafe that has been there forever.

Midland and San Angelo are the closest thing to civilization. Both about an hour drive.

Isn't much there would be an understatement. Would the job allow you to live in San Angelo? San Angelo is a pretty nice small town.

Well the pipeline is running from midland toward uvalde but our office where I will be working from is in Big Lake. I could live in those other towns but I would prefer to not have to drive an hour to or from work. I think my company is in the process of building a few spots for us office personel.

Be prepared for lots of caliche when digging those trenches! This ain't Caldwell.

My brother lived in BL in the late 70's during a boom and absolutely hated it. But he is a big city type guy. Most folks I know from there shopped in Angelo.

Wonder how much is really out there anymore. With the new boom there may be a Dollar General?

From google I found a DQ, Dollar store and I think a Super S foods. Other than that it looks like a whole lot of nothing.

There's also a subway.

32, I was born and raised in Big Lake. It is a great place to be FROM. When growing up there in the 1960s and 70s, there were some wonderful people living there. Not many of them left. Unless you are working 12-16 hours a day, I would live in San Angelo. Or even Mertzon b/c that would put you closer to San Angelo. Best of luck. It will not be a fun few months.

I would seriously consider looking for something in Rankin, Mertzon, Ozona or even Barnhart. Iraan is a little farther and i doubt there's anything available there. Good luck! Big Lake is a pretty scuzzy town, even by oil patch standards. Make sure you check out "The V"

What and where is "The V"? I work all around Big Lake, but try not to stop there.

Thanks for the input. I am currently staying in the city park rv lots for 2 weeks while my company puts in a small 5 spot park for us office guys. So far its been ok. The only friendly people I have met are the people from the city hall helping me with permits, everyone else is pretty rude. I beleive once our project gets rolling I wont be doing much but working and relaxing at the trailer. So it shouldnt be too bad.

Ouch. I occasionally go to San Angelo. Our field is between Barnhart and Mertzon.
