Who is your current provider and what rate are you paying? Ever shop around much to see what is available?

Midland - TXU
Plan: TXU MarketEdge plan
Last bill - $0.095/KW-hr
$213.88 for 2250 KW-hrs
The actual rate without fees & taxes included is $0.0888/KW-hr.
I would hate to leave TXU, but I have been tempted. This MarketEdge plan allows me to leave anytime if a really good deal pops up or Natural Gas prices shoot up. Rolling blackout threats this summer also make me want to stay with TXU if at all possible.

I'm with Ambit and I think my rate is about 8.8 cents.

My roommate has the utility bills and it is "green" energy.

The blackout threats are through ERCOT and not necessarily your energy provider. Who you are with will have no impact if they decide to shut down part of the grid for an area.

If anyone is interested I work with a company (side job) that can do anywhere from 7.9 to 13 after fees depending on the contract term you pick and your service area. Send me a PM or shoot me an email (in my profile) and I will be happy to provide info and answer any questions.

Maybe my loyalty is clouding my gut feelings.
I am loyal until I get screwed. TXU has taken pretty good care of me as long as I have lived in Midland. I really like their informative emails about my usage.
I have a generator in case ERCOT decides to play extended blackout games this summer. May also buy a 100+ gallon jumbo 5 day cooler or 2 from Academy to keep the frozen Frozen.

TxAg20 - you are one of the ones that should be shopping. Based on what you listed there you are paying 12.4 cents base and 14.1 cents after fees, etc... Unless Midland restricts your providers, you can do better.

I just signed up for 24 months at $.090/kwh with Direct. I could have gotten as low as $.071/kwh month-to-month and $.084/kwh for 12 months. I think I signed a 12 month contract 4 years ago and have been paying a high price since it expired. If I could get a 5-year contract I's probably do that, but the longest I could get was 24 months.
