rumor around town is that Cooper turned in larger enrollment #s than AHS this time, again just rumors. Guess we'll know for sure in Feb when the UIL realignments come out....

Some speedy genes in the Sims family. Both of those kids can fly. The long TD run by Herschel was one of the best runs I've seen in a while, and the QB was tearing Katy up most of the night.

I'm an Abilene Eagle dad
It has been a long football season…..

We stayed at home Friday night because the boys didn’t leave until Saturday morning
And the coaches and boys were coming home after the game so we planned on driving back Saturday night from San Antonio
Sent him off about 8:15, their buses left at 9:30am
He was calm and under control – not us though…..

Loaded up our carload of 5 and we pulled out about 9:30 also

He texted us and said they had police car escort out of town
We ended up catching up with the buses and followed them for about 2 hours

Got ahead of them and then stopped to meet up with more family
We all waved and hollered at the buses as they drove past

Got to San Antonio, had a nice lunch at La Fonda, a cool Mexican food place we eat at when in SA
Drove to the hotel where some family were going to spend the night

The game before us at the Alamo Dome started at 2:00 and was already in progress
All the parking lots at the stadium were full
So we shuttled everybody and then parked at the hotel and then Bro-in-law & I walked the mile back to the stadium

Met up with my sister and a friend from Austin
Got into the stadium and stood in line under the stands waiting for the Euless and Westlake game to finish
They wouldn’t let us in until their fans cleared the seats
Couldn't see the game or the closed circuit TVs so we listened to them shout and the tides turn as Euless came from behind to go ahead
Then Westlake tied it to force overtime
Then Euless wins with touchdown
They finally started leaving and let us in
We all ran in and grabbed 13 seats for all of us

My daughter got in a fight with a lady trying to save 60 seats by herself
I got in a shouting match with some other lady
dang band wagon fans....
More family catches up with us and we're ready to go

The game started and a minute and half later we’re up 7-0
After that, much was a blur - I was hyperventilating
I felt we had it in hand, but it was still too close
Katy was able to pull some plays out and stay in there
My son got lots of playing time and had several good blocks
He had a good game
Finally felt like we’d win after that long touchdown that put us up good
Then we just waited for the clock to run down

Game over, we win 28-17
I think I may get that tattooed somewhere….

The team was jumping out of their skins with excitement
Poured a cooler on the coach as the clock ticked down
They did their post game school song and Bird’s House chant at midfield
Got the trophy and then everybody milled about and took pictures

They wouldn’t let us on the field so we met them all outside at the buses
As usual – mine was one of the first out of the locker room
We got lots of pictures and hugs and he even autographed his cousin's t-shirt

Put them on the bus and then we headed home about 11:45 or so
Traffic was not bad, but I was so tired, completely wrung out
Stopped for coffee in Fredericksburg and kept going
Then about an hour outside of Abilene we saw the buses stopped at a gas station, the ubiquitous Allsups, and passed them
They ended up catching up with us then about 20 minutes outside of Abilene at 3:45 (in the morning) or so

About 5 miles from Abilene a white suburban pulls out on the road nearly in front of me
Scared me to death, but he speeded up and takes off
Then about a mile later he turns on his cop lights, they just exploded red and blue
It was an Abilene city police suburban leading us back into town
He and the buses turn on blinkers and speed up to about 80mph
They blew by us and we fell in behind
At the city limits 6 other cop cars are waiting
They pull onto the highway with all their lights flashing
A few in front and a couple to the side
they gave us an escort through town – that was an unbelievably cool sight (BIG thanks to Abilene PD)
Stopping all the traffic at red lights and swooped us around to the school and field house
Waiting at the field house were the TV stations a double handful of fans and parents
And the newspaper people already with the Sunday morning edition with headlines and pictures from the game
We all hugged on the boys and coaches
shook hands with other parents and basked in the glory for a little bit more

Took everybody home and finally got to our house about 4:30 in the morning
Son comes in and says – “I’m going to breakfast with 5 or 6 of the guys at ihop”
at the restaurant, the waitress, the manager and the cooks all came by and congratulated them
And then said "breakfast was on them – congratulations to the team"

We slept until about noon
grabbed a quick bite for lunch
Son needed a haircut (nobody has cut their hair since playoffs started)
At the Sports Clips barber shop they get on the loud speaker and say
“we have with us here one of the State Champion Abilene Eagles and his haircut is on the house”
Everybody clapped and cheered (actually there were only a few people there, but still)

Went to a movie and then watched the news with highlights and stories
All in all, an excellent day – a very long and tiring day, but an excellent day

my inside rumor is that cooper was just a few numbers shy of AHS, but probably enough to jump back to 5A

one of CHS's administrators said they had more, but I havent seen anything for sure. I was kinda hoping they'd stay 4A and Wylie would finally make the jump to 4A too. But it looks like Wylie's numbers arent going to be high enough....

Hard to say it, but glad a team from the old 5-4A that I went to school in won.

wylie doesnt have enough to make the jump to 4A again...no way...somehow they are usually one or two under...must be usin all the money they have to pay off the UIL
