"The Time it Never Rained" is one of my favorite modern western novels.

Terrible news, he is my favorite author and best explains the people and culture of West Texas.

I actually logged on just now to start this thread and was glad to see that it was already here.

Mr. Kelton's works should be required reading for all West Texans.

He just might have been my favorite t-sip.

His books have always been on my Christmas wish list. When my parents were alive, they saw that they all were autographed. Wish I had been more on the ball about getting all of them signed.

He had such a wonderful way of describing West Texas and its people.

Wow--hadn't heard that. One of my favorite authors. My sister worked at an office adjacent to his in San Angelo about 30 years ago. He was a true gentleman. I wanted to give one of his books (can't remember which one) to a friend of mine once, and my sister got his home number for me. I called him, told him who I was and what I wanted. He couldn't have been nicer.

I first knew of him when he was the agricultural editor for the Standard-Times, and then after college, I guess, I started reading his books. He was well-respected among the 4H/FFA crowd when he was working for the paper.

The second sentence in this was "One of my favorite authors." Even though I can't really claim I knew him, I think "one of my favorite people" is more complete.

Despite being a sip, he truely was a good man. Went to school with his daughter. I loved "The Wolf and the Buffalo". I used to be in the living history units at FT. Concho and he portrayed the Indian Wars period soldiers very well.

RIP, Mr. Kelton........

I grew up in the same house on the McElroy as Elmer...always had the time to respond to my emails and inquiries...truly a huge loss. He will be missed, and his stories always treasured.
