First, Stanley Marsh with his Cadillac Ranch, strange signs, the leg sculptures, floating mesa, etc. Then we've got this guy near Claude with combines buried in the ground similar to the Cadillac Ranch. Some people call it art. I call it trash.

Has anyone seen the weird pieces of scrap metal with writing on them in between Amarillo and Washburn? There are also some on soncy next to Preston west golf course. Some talk about aliens and other abstract stuff.

I hope that you realize that if not for Stanley Marsh 3, the Big Texan Steak House, and the Helium monument, Amarillo would be virtually indistiguishable from Lubbock.

Amarillo might be better off minus 2 of those three.

Actually the combine guy is near Amarillo on the Claude highway. And don't forget the leaning water tower at Brittan's in Groom, the buried VW Bugs there (in imitation of the Cadillac Ranch), and most of all the steel siding monument at Groom, built by the father of the Tech football player.



I believe the full name of the latter is Cross of Our Lord Jesus Christ at Groom.

Sorry if it offends folks, but that is among the ugliest and least inspiring religious objects since soccer playing Jesus.

In that he's wealthy, he is not classified as a lunatic, he is simply "eccentric".

Marsh has his detractions. Many, I will admit. I liked him when I have met him. He has done some great philanthropic things over the years. Many things that are unknown.

His "art" brings alot of publicity to Amarillo and it does not cost you guys anything. Don't complain. It dispells the fact that Amarillo is a boring, closed minded place.

I have seen pictures of the Cadillac Ranch and also his crazy signs all over the world. It is not all that bad of a thing.

But his pool table is a thing of beauty from the sky. Not many know about it.

Or his threat to Sante Fe about the Steakhouse. That was really a shot to New Mexico from Texas. Another thing of beauty.

I'm sure he's done quite a bit of charitable acts but that doesn't change the fact that some of his "art" is trashy. I could do without the strange signs. What a joy it would be to live next to people with rusty yield signs in their front yard. Also, I fail to see the beauty of graffiti laden cars buried in the ground.

rilloaggie - I've noticed those writings when driving south on Coulter from Hollywood to McCormick. Those are very random.

The art that Stanley Marsh 3 brings in is wonderful. Where else can you see such large pieces of modern art? He may have angered the local population by being eccentric and by spending money as he sees fit, but I think he's good for the area. I personally love the fact that the artwork he's brought to the area are a bit out of the ordinary. I hope to be able to see Amarillo Ramp soon.

BTW - does anyone know why they painted knee socks on Ozzy Mandus? I assume it was vandalized and someone had to paint over it.
