Headed to Denver from Fort Worth pulling our fifth wheel. Staying in Amarillo the 3rd and 4th. We're planning to check out the fair on the square in Canyon. Wondering whether we should stay in Canyon for fireworks or go to the show in Amarillo. Any advice?

Go to the parade in Canyon before the Fair on the Square. Biggest one in the Panhandle, thousands of visitors show up.

We live just south of the United National Bank event center (gym) which is where everyone forms up to parade. If you have kids, it's a great place to watch, as the people throwing candy are generous at the first.

I really don't know about the fireworks, I suspect Amarillo will be more extensive, but harder to find a vantage point

I just found out that the Amarillo Fireworks will include a drone show. That might influence your decision. Info for Amarillo show:

My wife had found the drone show. She'd probably prefer that. I'd prefer to get out of town and away from a bigger crowd.
Thanks again for your help.

Nobody does fireworks like Canyon. I'm talking about the neighborhoods, not the city's show (which is good as well). It's ridiculous and awesome at the same time.

We just sit on the back porch and it's non-stop in every direction for two hours. I'm sure the drone show is great, but you should stay in Canyon.

We just happened to visit with a friend, who told us about a mutual acquaintance (call him Luke) who has moved to just inside loop 335 in SE Amarillo. The sort-of-rural neighborhood has about 100 homes, and is bounded by Farmers Avenue on the north, and Eastern Street on the west. You can find it on Google Maps because all the streets are named after characters from Lonesome Dove.

"Luke" told our friend that in his neighborhood, the residents spend $10,000 EACH on fireworks, and have their own neighborhood show.

Surely that's not the right number, but I've seen crazier stuff
