Take in a Sod Poodle game. While the name is made up ridiculousness, it's a hoot. We love catching a Sunday afternoon game. Very fan friendly and an afternoon game gets us back home before dark.

Also as a parent with a son with Sensory issues they are VERY accommodating. Just this weekend they launched a program to provide sensory kits to parents providing sensory coping tools to allow for all kids to enjoy the atmosphere in a comfortable way! If we lived closer we'd likely get season tickets.

This is a very poorly put together list!!

Yes, Cadillac Ranch is one of those things everybody "has to see". It's also one of those things that people see and say "thats it??"

The Amarillo Zoo is, I'm sorry to say, not a strong offering.

To have those two on there and NOT put Texas! The Musical on the list is just lazy. Sod Poodles are a definitely strong addition, and even the Venom Arena Football team is a fun evening out.

If your going to include Palo Duro Canyon and the musical, then your not bound by the city limits, so I'd put a visit to Canyon's square, in particular in the summer when just about every weekend there are festivals, movies, live music, and farmer's markets.

Again, never been, looks like an interesting45 minute visit

11. Wonderland Amusement Park
A nice little amusement park, like hundreds of others

12. Cowgirls and Cowboys in the West
No idea

13. Don Harrington Discovery Center
Great for elementary aged kids

14. Bill's Backyard Classics
Haven't been, looks cool

15. The Big Texan Steak Ranch Brewery and Hotel
It's a tourist trap, with mediocre food. But the owner is a GREAT promoter for Amarillo, I cut him a lot of slack.

I know I'm likely a little biased since my 13 year old son plays cello but the Amarillo Symphony is legit! His cello instructor is a member of the symphony and it's a great time to get dressed up (starched jeans, dress boots and sport coat) and go have a nice evening. My wife gets tickets for 4-6 nights every year! Plus when the Globe News Center was built, I was there daily with my previous employer as a major supplier for the project!

These are interesting, but it's pretty obvious it's done by some "writer" who has never been to the Panhandle, and only Googles to see what everyone else posts.

Also, she added 1,000 feet to the depth of Palo Duro, didn't mention the Panhandle-Plains Museum, and used the wrong photo for the RV museum.

So What!
The more information from whatever source just means more about Amarillo.
If it's close enough to get reader's attention and they decide to check it out - it was a successful write-up.

I guess if you go by the old adage of "doesn't matter what you say, just spell my name right."

I prefer writers to get their facts straight, and dig a little deeper than Cadillac Ranch, Big Texan, Palo Duro.

Regarding the article, is it too much to ask that they get their facts somewhat straight? Or their photos accurate? Or that they actually visit, or do more than superficial research?

I don't need to lighten up, because it's a meaningless little article, that made the author a few bucks, and will have a tiny effect on Amarillo tourism dollars.

It's fun to discuss them, and talk about how one agrees or disagrees. If you'd rather not discuss them, then maybe don't post them.

I concede you appear to know more about MOST things in the Panhandle than probably 95% of the rest of us,
But your condescending attitude if you do find a nuance from others posts is tiring.

Some of us have a smidgen of well known information from many years of living there as well - me? Amarillo From infancy through high school and various jobs - including PANTEX - and then off to A&M and then i found a bigger much world out there - starting with being assigned to nearby Altus AFB - wljere 2 of my 5 daughters were born - but never appreciated any less my/our many years of growth in the Panhandle with a profound appreciation. And living and having a home and home of record from 1943 for 69 years and owning at least two homes off an on in Amarillo as recently as 2012 I've not lost touch even though I ultimately did not retire there.

So I'll give you all the little country towns and rural tidbits and even Canyon…. But don't even believe you know more about Amarillo proper and say, Palo Duro Canyon or even WT than those of us who have a direct connection with each.

You pull the same know-it-all in just about every thread on TexAgs.

Do you have a life outside of TexAgs? And why do you try to control every thread you stick your nose in with your know-it-all thoughts as well??

I'm not wanting to get into the "debate". But in my 30 years living in Amarillo, I'd find much better attractions. I've been to 10 of the 17 listed. I agree with CanyonAg, the article is poorly written or researched. If Palo Duro Canyon and State park was 2,800 feet deep, now that'd be a Canyon worth visiting! "Suddenly, a rim to the earth appears and the canyon goes down 2,800-plus feet to the floor." 2,800 ft. might be the canyon's floor elevation above sea level, but it's not its depth! I concur that the Palo Duro Canyon & State Park are the top attractions together with the "Texas" musical in the State Park during the summer. The Panhandle Plains Museum on the WTAMU campus would be my #2, as well.

I retired in 2013 and moved S. nearer to family. But I dearly loved my years living in Amarillo, working near Amarillo, and my many friends and colleagues in Amarillo as well as those at WTAMU. Amarillo was a fantastic city for my '74 Aggie wife and I to raise my Aggie family ('92, '94, '01; all were Amarillo High School Golden Sandies, too).

The point is that Amarillo - and the Panhandle - is getting reviews from multiple sources... Personally, I think that's a good thing...

Folks down state typically could care less about anything in the area. If these travelogues relate something that triggers something more than passing through to the ski slopes that should be good as well.
